Position: Community Education and Advocacy Coordinator

Status: Non-Exempt Full-time

Reports to: Senior Director of Programs

The Korean-American Family Service Center, Inc. (KAFSC) is a leading non-profit organization assisting women, children, and families in the New York tri-state area to recognize and eliminate relationship violence and abuse. Our counseling, education, advocacy and support services help individuals empower themselves to build safe and healthy relationships based on mutual respect and dignity. Each year, over 2,000 individuals benefit from one or more services that we provide. All our services are culturally sensitive, linguistically appropriate, and free.

KAFSC seeks a full-time Community Education and Advocacy Coordinator that coordinates internal and external community advocacy and education programs to promote the mission of KAFSC; builds awareness within the community around issues related to domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse; builds community partnerships and elevates the voice of the marginalized Korean/Asian immigrant survivors that KAFSC serves. This position reports to the Senior Director of Programs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Community Education & Advocacy

  • Coordinates all Community Advocacy efforts; ensures organization mission is communicated effectively and supported by broad efforts that build awareness to issues and increase accessibility for Korean/Asian immigrant survivors, secondary survivors, and the underserved, marginalized community.
  • Coordinates and supervises prevention and empowerment focused education within KAFSC programs and services i.e. Counseling, 24 Hour Hotline, Housing, Youth Community Project Team, and also within the community including but not limited to K-12 schools, university and college campuses, partner organizations, and government agencies.
  • Provides training within the organization and with other stakeholder groups as related to domestic/intimate partner violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and child abuse; provides cross-program coordination of all education assessing and utilizing staff as educators where applicable.
  • Maintains monthly Program statistics; manages database as necessary to ensure accurate data tracking. Maintains outcome measurement for the Program; provides all necessary Programs reporting per agency and funding requirements.
  • Networks with local, state and federal agencies, state and national coalitions; represents KAFSC on assigned committees, coalitions, and caucuses. Attends relevant trainings and workshops
  • Recruit volunteers to support education and advocacy events and efforts; Track and maintain volunteer information and data

Youth Community Project Team (YCPT)

  • Coordinates KAFSC’s youth advocacy program; facilitates weekly sessions based on education and advocacy efforts to issues of domestic/intimate partner violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and child abuse.  
  • Ensures a variety of youth-led outreach, education, and advocacy events that are planned and implemented
  • Advises and counsels youth as needed; provide appropriate information/support to youth and parents; Maintains communication with YCPT students and parents through meetings, email, facebook, text, phone calls, a parent newsletter and periodic parent meetings
  • Documents, evaluates and submits reporting data on the effectiveness of programs and activities

Administration & Fundraising

  • Prepare documents and reports for all appropriate, project-related activities
  • Participate in the agency-wide fundraising events

Qualifications

  • BA or BS in Social Work, Sociology, or related field
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills in Korean and English
  • Community organizing skills and experiences
  • Strong commitment to the Asian/Korean American Community, immigrant community and KAFSC’s mission
  • Experience working with domestic violence victims or family conflicts preferred
  • Program development and event coordination experience, a plus
