The American Youth Policy Forum (AYPF) is a national policy and action think tank in Washington, DC. Its mission is to educate, engage, and inform policymakers and practitioners about the education, youth, and workforce policies to improve the lives and outcomes of traditionally underserved youth.  

Throughout its history, AYPF has successfully fulfilled this mission through a series of deep learning experiences that have informed the decision-making that affects the lives of traditionally underserved youth. Core Responsibilities 

AYPF is seeking to hire a Director/Senior Director - Marketing and Communications to deploy marketing strategies and communications vehicles to raise the profile of the organization as a national voice for opportunity youth; and advance AYPF’s policy objectives. The desired candidate will have the ‘know how’ and interest to creatively manage AYPF’s contacts and networks, website, online learning community, and strategic outreach efforts. 

Marketing and Communications 

Lead the development of AYPF’s communication strategy that effectively supports the work and program areas. Ensure communications are of the highest quality and are reaching appropriate audiences. Gather and develop content and draft stories for the AYPF’s website and monthly newsletter that capture the AYPF’s voice, approach, and analysis. Lead, plan, project manage, and successfully oversee creative concepts, content development, and production of an annual report. Write and edit AYPF materials including press releases, announcements, guidelines, messages, and support materials. Develop and build relationships with media contacts and key influencers and create media plans, as required, to help achieve the highest impact for our work. Manage special projects and consultants as needed.

Database Responsibilities

We are looking for an individual familiar with database management software, customer relationship management (CRM) programs, email management with list segmentation, and who can determine ways to store, organize, analyze, use, and present data. The Director/Senior Director - Marketing and Communications will update the database of individuals who attend AYPF events; create lists of individuals for invitations, events, reports, and other activities; email invitations, event confirmations, e-bulletins, and other documents to various lists.

This position will ensure the system's performance, understand the platform on which the database runs, add/delete users to the system, and proactively ensure that all data is accurate. As our database is web-based, the Director/Senior Director - Marketing and Communications will also plan and coordinate security measures in cooperation with other staff.

Website Responsibilities

In close coordination with AYPF staff members, the Director/Senior Director - Marketing and Communications will organize and update website content to ensure timely, accurate postings of AYPF events, materials, and reports and make general improvements to the functionality of the website. Tasks include page creation, page updates for homepage sliders and other sections of the website, post-event information and supporting documents on the website, make appropriate links, and provide quality control to ensure web pages and links are accurate, active, current, and consistent in appearance. The Director/Senior Director - Marketing and Communications will edit and proofread content for style, accuracy, grammar, punctuation, spelling, search engine friendliness, and enter content and associated metadata tags.

Network Engagement Responsibilities

The Director/Senior Director - Marketing and Communications should feel comfortable routinely introducing and implementing processes to enhance the organization's communication, marketing, and outreach efforts. Manage the technical aspects of events using tools such as Zoom or Airmeet. Proactively explore audience engagement tools, communication trends, and industry best practices. Ensure the organization's outreach efforts, amongst all communication mediums (website, e-bulletin, Tweets, event invitations, and others), reflects cohesion, is attention-grabbing, and is reviewed for quality control will be essential.

Desired Skills and Experience

We are looking for a creative individual with strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills. Because the Director/Senior Director - Marketing and Communications will deal with multiple tasks simultaneously, the ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail is critical. The Director/Senior Director - Marketing and Communications will often work independently but will routinely engage with all staff members on the development and implementation of our events. Therefore, they must communicate effectively with other staff who may have limited knowledge of backend systems supporting our database and website.

Qualified candidates will have:

•7+ years relevant marketing and communications experience.

•Relevant post-secondary education.

•Experience working with, or demonstrated interest in, non-profit organizations.

•Experience developing communication strategies for complex issues.

•Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.

•A talent for strategic storytelling and for making complex ideas understandable and appropriate to specific audiences.

•Experience creating and managing website content, and producing and publishing newsletters.

•Skilled with social media tools and analytics software.

•Proven ability to execute media plans and generate media interest.

•Strong organizational and project management skills.

•Excellent attention to detail and the ability to take initiative and work independently.

•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

•Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.

•Proficiency in Microsoft Office, WordPress, Google Analytics, and social media platforms.

•Be proficient with online learning and engagement tools such as Zoom, Go2Meeting, Airmeet, and similar platforms.

•Have experience managing, assessing, and editing professional web sites and applications, know Web editing, HTML, Dreamweaver, and WordPress.

Salary

$60,000 - $75,000The salary range for this position is $60,000 – $75,000 based on experience.
