Position Description
The Youth Program Coordinator (YPC) leads youth programming activities from 5:30 pm-7:30 pm on Tuesday & Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings from 9:30 am-11:00 am beginning 5/17/22 up to 9/01/22. The YPC will work with the FBWP team to develop youth activities that provide complementary health messaging to the adult FBWP. Predominantly Spanish-speaking families attend Tuesday sessions. It is possible that a child who cannot speak English will attend; a translator will be on-site each day. The program will take place at the following locations within New Haven: Tuesday: 15 James St., Thursday: 170 Ward St. & Saturday: 613 Ferry St.
Youth programming coordination will be divided into three age groups ranging from 5-17 years old. The first group will be made up of children from 5-8, the second group will be from 9-12, and the third group will be from 13-17. We are looking for one coordinator per age group. When applying, please mention which age group you are interested in coordinating. The YPC’s schedule may be flexible throughout the week when working remotely. However, attending in-person programming is required during regular session dates/times. Additional work hours done remotely to accommodate interest/schedule is negotiable. This position requires a commitment of 8-10 hours per week throughout the duration of the program. Compensation is set at $14.00 per hour.
The youth programming activities should be oriented towards a youth audience living in a household with a family history of diet-related illnesses, which could include but not be limited to excess weight, pre-diabetes, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc. This program aims to give these children the opportunity to engage with the natural world to make the connection to the symbiotic balance of ecosystems and how the natural world works to provide us with sustenance. The youth program is a child care component to the adult program with added substance. The goal is to give children exposure to an outdoor environment focused on giving children complementary health messaging to the adult program. In this way, families are going home with harmonious health messaging that will inspire healthier habits within the household.
This position requires a commitment of 8-10 hours per week throughout the duration of the program.
Required Skills:
Previous experience instructing youth groups with 4+ participants;
Enthusiasm and strong interest in working with youth.
