The Georgia Resource Center is accepting applications for an Investigator/Mitigation Specialist to work on legal teams representing people on Georgia’s death row. Entry level applicants are welcome. The Resource Center is also willing to consider attorney applicants who are willing to commit to a split of investigative and legal work. 

The Investigator/Mitigation Specialist will develop strong client relationships; lead the life history and crime investigation for GRC clients; work closely team members to develop an investigative and litigation strategy; create and maintain comprehensive investigative case files; identify and interview crime and mitigation witnesses; develop exhaustive bio-psycho-social histories of our clients and their family members; and other tasks as needed. 

Required Qualifications:

·       Commitment to racial justice, the dignity of all persons no matter their worst act, and indigent criminal defense;

·       Ability to travel (as pandemic conditions allow);

·       Flexibility to work evenings and weekends;

·       Valid driver’s license;

·       Excellent written and oral communication skills;

·       Excellent organizational skills;

·       A high degree of initiative and the ability to engage in creative problem-solving;

·       Ability to communicate effectively and establish rapport with clients and witnesses from a variety of different backgrounds;

·       Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on a team;

·       An interest in mental health issues, and in particular trauma, intellectual disability, and mental illness.

·       Attorney applicants should be a member of the Georgia Bar or willing to seek admission at the earliest opportunity.

Preferred Qualifications:

·       Bachelor’s Degree and/or a post-graduate degree;

·       Prior experience in the criminal legal system, as an impacted individual or as a professional.
