About the position

The Director of Communications will improve POTS ability to represent itself and its work to key stakeholders, including clients, donors, volunteers, and members of the wider community. The Director of Communications will be responsible for creating and executing a communications plan with engagement objectives; managing relationships with public relations and communications consultants; managing relationships with media outlets; coordinating with other POTS staff and program partners; and overseeing spoken, electronic and printed content for the organization. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Communications will serve as a member of the Management Team and support organization-wide initiatives. Specific areas of focus include:

 Communications Planning and Measurement: Create a communications plan that advances POTS’ impact and reputation among all existing stakeholders, creates name recognition among a throughout the broader tristate community and beyond, and ensures consistency in branding and messaging.

Strategy Execution and Content Management: Protect the POTS brand and manage consistency in design, branding, and tone of digital and printed materials across all platforms. Oversee consultants/vendors in designing and maintaining POTS’s website, event marketing materials, annual reports, video production, and photography

Coordinate with Development Team: Plan and coordinate closely with the development team to create messaging to engage new and existing donor groups.

Coordinate with Program Team: Facilitate and improve communications with clients about new and existing POTS programs and work with the program team to solicit feedback from clients about programs and their understanding of messaging. This messaging is often bilingual and Spanish language writing and speaking capacity preferred.

Executive Editor for Social Media and Online Presence: Considering social media platforms and the manner of engagement with them in particular, identify opportunities to amplify key program messages and the work of POTS to a range of stakeholders and work to grow impact of social media through regular posting.

Maintain Communication with Traditional Media: Develop and implement media strategies, maintaining relationships with press and fielding media inquiries.

 Qualifications

·       Commitment to the Mission and Core Values of the organization

·       Bachelor’s Degree required, in preferably communications or related field

·       5+ years of nonprofit communications experience

·       Experience directly overseeing staff or consultant partners

·       Strong communications, writing, speaking skills

·       Ability to translate complex ideas into clear, concise, and compelling narratives for various audiences

·       Proven ability to think strategically, plan projects and manage their outcomes combining big ideas with attention to detail

·       Proven team leadership and project management skills

·       Team player with cooperative approach to colleagues

·       Ability to balance numerous requests from multiple constituencies across the organization

·       Ability to engage effectively with a broad array of stakeholders

·       Commitment to POTS’ mission, vision and values

·       Facility with social media and marketing software (Constant Contact, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and Hootsuite) or experience working with similar tools

·       Experience with tracking and measuring engagement with digital marketing

·       Spanish proficiency strongly preferred

·       This job can be full time or have flexible work hours
