The Tucson Second Chance Community Bail Fund (TSCCBF) is a Black-led abolitionist revolving bail fund.  We post bond for predominately black, brown and indigenous communities who are unable to afford bail, while they await trial. Our mission is to end the unjust criminalization of poverty and the practice of pretrial detention in Pima County.  We are fiscally sponsored by the Praxis Project.

Position Summary

The Tucson Second Chance Community Bail Fund (TSCCBF), a fiscally sponsored program of the Praxis Project,  seeks a full-time community organizer to work closely with the Director of Programs and Executive  Director to oversee and further develop campaigns in service of TSCCBF’s mission to  disrupt and ultimately end the practice of pretrial detention in Pima County. 

 

This is a unique opportunity to work in a young and enthusiastic black femme-led  organization that is tackling the incarceration system in Southern Arizona.  


Strong candidates should have robust experience in either community organizing,  community-based advocacy, direct services, and be familiar with prison abolitionist  principles of change. Their work and/or volunteer history should clearly demonstrate a  commitment to racial, social, and/or economic justice.  


Term: Until June 1, 2022 (with potential 1 year extension) - 40  hours per week 

Position Location: Tucson, Arizona  

Compensation: $45,000 annually

Reports To: Director of Programs 



Responsibilities: 

  • Supporting and executing TSCCBF campaigns focused on increasing accountability and transparency at Pima County Jail & the Courts
  • Engaging, educating, and expanding community relationships in service of  creating a stronger/more cohesive local abolitionist movement in Pima County 
  • Assisting with expanding TSCCBF’s bail relief efforts across Southern Arizona 
  • Designing messaging for and coordinating social media campaigns 


Ideal Qualifications:

  • Committed to deepening and evolving personal understandings of prison abolition and other liberation movements 
  • A hard worker with a strong ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a constantly shifting and fast-paced environment 
  • Possess creative vision to think around setbacks and “problems”
  • A Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in community organizing, community based advocacy, and/or providing direct services 
  • Effective writing, editing, and verbal communication skills 
  • Formerly incarcerated persons and/or those from directly impacted families are strongly encouraged to apply 
  • Track record of working collaboratively and independently 
  • Previous experience designing and executing Social Media campaigns on platforms  including Facebook and Twitter  

Salary and Benefits

TSCCBF’s Community Organizer will be based in the Tucson metro area. This is a full- time position that will be primarily remote however certain in-person meetings and tasks will be required. The role will also require some evening and weekend hours as well. This position includes healthcare and dental benefits. Start date is as soon as available.

Our benefits package covers over 100% of the premium cost for single tier benefits, 15 days per year of paid vacation, and a 401k plan with an employer matching contribution (100% of the first 6% of pay contributed by the employee), which is also immediately vested.
