About the Zurich Flood Resilience Alliance
The ‘Zurich Alliance’ is an alliance of ten organisations including international NGOs, private sector and research organisations, who have come together with the support of the Zurich Foundation to drive better policy and practice to reduce the negative impact of floods on people’s and communities’ ability to thrive.
Over five years the partners will together implement a combination of pilot programmes, research, knowledge management and influence to persuade donors, policy-makers and practitioners to invest more and more effectively in flood prevention and preparedness through:
- Increased and more effective financial investments in flood resilience;
- Improved global and national policy for increased pre-event action to flood resilience;
- Improved practice in flood resilience by key stakeholders.
Mercy Corps (MC) is leading the ‘influencing and advocacy’ work within the Alliance, as well as making substantial contributions to workstreams on knowledge management and learning, research and evidence, and piloting innovative field programming with communities, business and government.
Inception work began in December 2017. Alliance 2.0 will launch formally on 1 July 2018 and run for five years to 30 June 2023.
We are looking for an Officer to support this five year project to work with an alliance of NGOs, research and private sector partners to influence funding and policy to deliver effective flood resilience.
The Officer will work closely with the Head of the Zurich Resilience Alliance and will support coordination and management of the global advocacy work of the Alliance partners, facilitating meetings, coordinating and tracking activities, organising events and production of publications, and representing the Alliance where appropriate.
(S)he will also support coordination of MC research and analysis related to flood resilience and will support the production of communication materials, in partnership with technical staff. This requires managing inputs from consultants, technical partners and peer reviewers, and dissemination of new resources to influence ongoing policy/practice discussions and practices in the field.
