TITLE: RESOURCE & HOUSING COUNSELOR 

SENIOR NETWORK SERVICES: 

Senior Network Services is a community resource agency serving Santa Cruz County providing senior citizens and people with disabilities with information, guidance and assistance in coordinating existing resources to promote independence and the highest quality of life.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

In coordination with the Information, Referral and Assistance/Case Management Programs provides information, makes referrals, assists in locating services, provides case management and suggests alternative resources to assure adequate service delivery to elderly clients.

Provides information on available housing services for seniors. Makes home visits to seniors interested in sharing their homes, arranges introductory meetings, helps negotiate home sharing agreements. Provides follow-up mediation on request. Provides seniors information on available housing options. Makes presentations to interested groups and agencies about the housing program.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Responds to requests for information, makes appropriate referrals to other community resources, informs about services available to seniors and suggests alternative ways of solving problems as part of resource management and case management;

Plans and schedules visits to elderly citizens for the purpose of providing resource management and case management with special effort directed toward preserving their independence in the home environment;

Coordinates services and provides informal advocacy in support of seniors, cooperates with community service organizations in the interest of securing maximum benefits for elderly clients;

Conducts outreach within Santa Cruz County to publicize availability of services for older people and to determine any gaps in existing service delivery;

Keeps required records and performs other clerical tasks as needed;

Use a computer to prepare and/or independently develop a variety of documents, including correspondence, reports, memos, brochures, flyers, program procedures; copies and distributes as necessary;

Assists in training new personnel and works in cooperation with the Information, Referral and Assistance Program;

Assists in monitoring housing program activity and promoting service availability;

Will help older people to explore housing options and to discuss their individual situations;

Generate new written materials for program, both for housing information and outreach purposes;

Will report problematic situations to the Executive Director and, in consultation with other Senior Network staff, secure maximum assistance for the client;

Will keep necessary records of contacts made and other essential data as required;

May attend community meetings concerned with housing issues;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

B.A. degree with one year of experience in social services or five years of applicable experience;

Standard office practices and procedures, including filing, record-keeping, scheduling, and the use of standard office equipment;

Dealing tactfully and effectively with stakeholders, and being sensitive to their needs and concerns;

Organizing work, setting priorities, using initiative and independent judgment, and maintaining attention to detail;

Ability and experience in identifying with and working with older people;

Ability to communicate clearly and put others at ease;

Ability to read and understand non-technical material;

Willingness and ability to work under supervision as well as independently;

Physical stamina as required for standing, walking and climbing stairs while meeting with clients in their homes.

HIGHLY DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of senior services and case management, including community services and public benefits;

Sensitivity to the needs of elderly clients, ability to communicate clearly and to create an atmosphere of trust;

Willingness and ability to work both independently and interdependently in a team situation with a minimum of supervision;

Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid driver’s license and fully insured vehicle necessary.

Fingerprinting and background check required.

Must provide completed COVID-19 vaccination card, with or without accommodation.

Cover Letter Required.

HOURS/ BENEFITS: 

Regular, non-exempt, 30hr per week

M-F 9am-Noon & 1:00pm-4:00pm

$20.00 - $22.00 per hour based on qualifications

Vacation, holiday and sick leave provided.

Medical, dental and vision insurance benefits if employed at least 30 hours per week.
