Deputy Head of Campaigns - Europe Regional Office

Location: London, UK

Amnesty International’s Regional Europe Office in London is looking for an experienced human rights campaigner and manager to serve as our Deputy Head of Campaigns to support the Campaigns Director for Europe in the delivery of impactful and fully integrated campaigns in the sub-region. This role is advertised on a 21-month fixed term contract.

Whether we are addressing restrictions on freedom of expression and on civil society activists, or violations of the rights of migrants, or denouncing sexual violence against women, our campaigns make a difference. You will contribute to deliver powerful global, regional and national campaigns that inspire people to act. Our campaigning staff will look to you for innovative strategies for action and solid guidance, both of which will stem from your strong communication across the organization to build public engagement.

Reporting to the Director of Campaigns for Europe, the Deputy Head of Campaigns will oversee integrated planning and delivery for campaign projects under their brief; they will assist in ensuring the overall quality of campaign plans and campaigning output, and will identify and foster opportunities for partnership and collaboration with other social and human rights movements and communities. At the same time, you will manage Campaigns staff and ensure performance is managed and talent is nurtured; you will be integral to the corporate management of the Europe Regional Office, deputising for the Director of Campaigns whenever necessary.

You will be well-versed in the human rights campaign lifecycle – from identifying issues to undertaking impact assessment – all using sound political judgement. You are familiar with the Europe region and will understand and have a keen knowledge on global human rights issues and trends. You will have a proven ability and substantial experience in managing people and teams and will be able to get the best out of people, whether that is through coaching, mentoring, capacity building or training.

Having worked in a similar leadership role, you have no problem managing cross-functional, multi-cultural teams; and you certainly know how to adjust priorities, hit deadlines and adapt to fast-changing political situations. Above all, you have the collaborative and creative approach needed to generate human rights campaigns that resonate and get results. You will have excellent written and verbal English with working knowledge of at least one more language spoken in the region as an advantage.

Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 7 million people who campaign for a world where human rights are enjoyed by all. We reach almost every country in the world and have:

  • more than 2 million members and supporters who drive forward our fight for rights
  • more than 5 million activists who strengthen our calls for justice

Our aim is simple: an end to human rights abuses. Independent, international and influential, we campaign for justice, fairness, freedom and truth wherever they're denied. And whether we're applying pressure through powerful research or direct lobbying, mass demonstrations or online campaigning, we're all inspired by hope for a better world. One where human rights are respected and protected by everyone, everywhere.

At Amnesty International, we are passionate about what we do and we are proud of our achievements as a movement. To compensate our employees for the wonderful work they do, we reward them through a combination of an attractive and sector competitive salary and benefits package, high levels of engagement and involvement, and a commitment to employee development.

Benefits include 37 days annual leave (inclusive of public holidays and grace days), competitive salary, pension scheme, employee assistance programme, life assurance and many more. All of this, in a professional, engaging environment.
