The ALS Association Greater New York Chapter is one of the largest and most active chapters in The ALS Association's nationwide network. The ALS Association Greater New York Chapter is a leader in the fight to cure and treat ALS by funding global, cutting-edge research and providing vital support services to people with Lou Gehrig’s disease and their families in the Greater New York metropolitan area.

Reporting to the Chapter President and CEO, the Director of Fundraising and Special Events will provide overall leadership of the Chapter’s special events team. The ideal candidate will take the lead role in the strategic growth and development of The ALS Association’s signature peer-to-peer fundraising program, The Walk to Defeat ALS, as well as all Distinguished, Endurance, Third Party and Awareness programs. The Director of Fundraising and Special Events will be responsible for implementing an aggressive and successful program to meet financial goals for department’s fundraising budget.

This is a full-time position, which is traditionally based in the Chapter's Manhattan office, which also requires travel around the Chapter territory. Due to the pandemic, the role is currently a hybrid mix between working in the office and from home.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning and execution of all fundraising events and special projects. Events include but are not limited to: Signature Walk to Defeat ALS program, Distinguished Events such as The ALS Iron Horse Golf Classic and Lou Gehrig Legacy Gala, Team ALS Endurance events, ALS Young Professionals Group events, third party fundraisers, academic symposia, and other fundraising event opportunities.
  • Supervise Special Events team members to ensure the success of all Event programs and initiative.
  • Work closely with event chairs, volunteers, Team Captains, advocates, and all fundraisers and Walk teams to enhance fundraising efforts.
  • Seek and develop new event opportunities to grow the Chapter’s special events portfolio by creating fundraising and/or educational awareness opportunities.
  • Develop sponsorship opportunities and serve as the main liaison with event sponsors prior to, during and after an event.
  • Work closely with vendors to oversee creation and production of all creative and printed materials for all events.
  • Provide routine fundraising reports to Chapter President and CEO and Executive Board to evaluate the effectiveness of the Special Events programs.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with Chapter Board members and Chapter staff at all levels.
  • Represent the Chapter at National Association meetings and conferences concerning national signature event, marketing and revenue development.
  • Assume other duties as assigned by President and CEO.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum 5 years of non-profit event management experience.
  • Established track record of peer-to-peer fundraising program success, with significant emphasis on Walks/Endurance Events with 7-figure+ revenue budgets.
  • Proven history of creating new and successful programs as well as taking current programs/initiatives to new heights.
  • Must have strong relationship management skills and donor development skills.
  • Previous experience in staff supervision required.
  • Strong time management skills and willingness to work in a team-based environment.
  • Experience using Luminate/Convio, Salesforce, and database programs desired.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be available nights and weekends.
  • Travel within Chapter’s service area.
