Having had personal experience in the foster care, detention coaches youth in using their discharge action plans to avoid reconnecting with negative influences including those associated with gang activity, commercial sex trafficking, alcohol and substance abuse; personally connects the youth to resources, programs and individuals who can be helpful in making a positive transition; conducts in person encounters with youth and family resources in accordance to program requirements and conditions of release to assure that the youth is accessing the resources available; works to motivate, encourage and correct the youth as they make their transition to the community by sharing same and similar experiences that can normalize the transition. Other duties as assigned.
High school diploma/GED; must be aware of assets and deficits in the communities from which the youth come; culturally and linguistically competent, able to engage families; Must possess a valid state driver’s license
An applicant for employment will not be hired if his or her driving record reflects any of the following infractions; some examples include but are not limited to:
• Suspended, revoked or otherwise invalid license
• Reckless , high risk or otherwise unsafe driving behavior within the past 3 years
• 6 or more points on license
IT IS A PLUS IF YOU:
Are Bilingual; Have knowledge of OCFS regulations and mandates; Previous experience in: community organizing, political campaigns and/or customer service ; Have prior experience with the Juvenile Justice or Prison systems.
