Camp Kee Tov has been serving the East Bay community for 51 years. The camp’s creative energy, and the friendship shared by counselors and campers each summer, has made Camp Kee Tov an integral part of the lives of generations of enthusiastic and committed families. Our strength comes from our rich tradition and sense of community; most of our staff members were Camp Kee Tov campers, and their continued involvement gives the camp a family feeling that infuses the entire community. Camp Kee Tov welcomes children of all religious and ethnic backgrounds.

Camp Kee Tov is a program of Congregation Beth El, Berkeley’s progressive Reform Congregation since 1945. More than 500 households rely on the congregation for worship, community, preschool care, after school education and a wide range of additional programming throughout the year. As Youth Director, you will support and oversee specific Youth programs of the congregation as outlined in the job description.

This is a full-time, full-benefits position. This is a wonderful opportunity for the right person to develop their management, leadership, planning and programming skills.

Qualified candidates will have: a Bachelors degree or equivalent; a minimum of 4 years work experience at a day or residential camp, with two of them in supervisorial positions; and extensive experience with youth engagement. Work experience at a Jewish camp or youth program is preferred, and experience with Camp Kee Tov is a plus

JOB TITLE: Camp Kee Tov & Youth Director

REPORTS TO: Associate Rabbi & Executive Director

JOB PURPOSE: To maximize engagement of youth ages 5-18 at Congregation Beth El. To provide leadership and management of camp program and year-round youth programming for middle and high school-aged kids and teens. To ensure Jewish cultural enrichment and personal growth of participants. To prepare camp staff to be role models and care takers of the campers. To ensure that Camp Kee Tov functions according to highest professional standards. To support and manage programming of meaningful and engaging youth activities and field trips throughout the school year.

o Prepare/update CKT staff and parent handbooks

o Design, send and analyze parent surveys

o Serve as liaison with Camp Kee Tov Committee


o Work with ED to prepare annual budget

o Monitor income and expenses and generate budgeted surplus


o Plan, prepare, lead and evaluate Program Directors’ and Staff Trainings

o Supervise the CKT Administrator and all summer staff.

o Recruit, interview and hire summer staff

o Program and lead Friday Night Activities for staff (FNAs)

o Teach and enforce camp policies


o Update and maintain website and social media presence

o Arrange, market and conduct family information communications and presentations at schools, JCCs, synagogues and other venues PRE- and POST-CAMP LOGISTICS

o Reserve facilities, sites, transportation and other camp facilities.

o Oversee the management of food and other supplies

o Design, order and distribute all promotional items (e.g. staff gear)

o Schedule and supervise CPR and first aid training PROGRAM

o Plan, design, hire for and oversee current and new programs

o Design new programs to meet Beth El and community needs

o Assign campers to camper groups

o Supervise and visit program areas as needed


o Hire and manage staff members for high holy day childcare

o Create programming plan with staff

o Participate in planning and leading K-5 youth activities

o Support the Associate Rabbi and Youth Advisor in identifying teen volunteers to lead and program teen services on High Holy Days SHABBATON

o Support the YAFE Director in planning for and leading the Shabbaton

o Hire and manage youth staff for Shabbaton youth programming

o Work with youth staff to create youth programming for Shabbaton SEPTEMBER-MAY YOUTH ENGAGEMENT

o Support Youth Advisor in programming and management of youth events

o Work with BESTY and Sababa leadership to create engaging programs
