 Just A Start YouthBuild is seeking a dynamic Counseling Service Program Specialist to manage the development and implementation of comprehensive support services to ensure all participants have access to on-site and off-site supports. Provide case management services around mental and physical health treatment, housing, substance use treatment, and ensuring that all participants are enrolled to receive state benefits if eligible such as TAFDC and SNAP. Create and develop program policies and systems, facilitate trainings for staff and students, oversee, modify and facilitate life skills curriculum.  


RESPONSIBILITIES

Counseling and Case Management Duties

●        Provide counseling to participants utilizing modalities and approaches including but not limited to Motivational Interviewing (MI), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)

●      Provide court advocacy and write letters (for caseload)

●      Maintain working knowledge of community resources (unemployment, SNAP, housing, mental health, food resources, etc.) and assist with applications and referrals

●      Communicate with all necessary collateral contact and treatment providers working with students on caseload

●      Complete program documentation and case notes in an accurate and efficient manner

●      Initiate meetings with students and appropriate staff to address barriers to consistent attendance

●      Manage student re-engagement meeting invitation scheduling, communication, and facilitation (for caseload)

●      Assist with facilitation of Student Success Plans for all students and implement as a tool to support youth in achieving their goals

●      Work closely with Program Director to further develop effective policies, data tracking systems, and structures for Case Management component

●      Counsel staff on effective intervention strategies and conflict resolution strategies

●      Apply positive youth development, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approaches while engaging with participants, staff, and service providers to ensure participant needs are central to program

●      Supervise counseling service field placement interns (if applicable)

 

Programmatic Duties

●      Collaborate with colleagues to ensure student participation and retention in-program and during follow-up year

●      Oversee leadership development component including Youth Policy Committee, leadership training, and identify leadership activities & opportunities  

●      Assist with curriculum design and co-facilitate Life Skills classes

●      Maintain existing community partnerships and facilitate communication with partners

●      Complete data reporting and submit program quarterly reports

●      Assist with program outreach and recruitment, including leading third round interviews

●      Assist with development of programming for the “Mental Toughness” orientation for new applicants

●      Coordinate and plan program-wide activities that foster a sense of community

●      Advocate for the needs of YouthBuild students to enhance programming, recruitment and community awareness

●      Spearhead the creation of programmatic systems geared towards supporting participant growth and skill building

●      Attend regular staff meetings, supervision, and trainings as needed or requested by Program Director

●      Work collaboratively with Career Pathways, Education and Construction teams to support college readiness, workforce development, and educational attainment

●      Other duties as assigned by Program Director.

    

REQUIREMENTS:

●      MSW with MA state licensure (LCSW or LICSW) and a minimum of five years of counseling, advocacy, group facilitation, education and support services to youth and young adults

●      Strong understanding of the specialized needs of youth and young adults who may be experiencing challenges related to racism, addiction, trauma, mental health, relationship violence, and criminal involvement

●      Extensive knowledge of supports and services in the Metro-North Region, including formal and informal services for youth ages 16-24 year old

●      Demonstrated ability to develop and implement policy change in multi-disciplinary environments

●      MS Office proficiency

●      Ability to recruit businesses, faith-based groups, schools, non-profits, and other organizations for support services and to potentially serve as mentors or volunteers

●      MA Driver’s license, regular local travel required; occasional out-of-state travel to assigned meetings/conferences

●      Ability to work flexible hours outside of Monday- Friday F 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM schedule as needed

●      Acceptable CORI/SORI

●      Skill in establishing authentic relationships with youth and young adults

●      Ability to observe personal and professional boundaries, maintain confidentiality, and regulate emotions

●      Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and negotiate effectively, and develop dynamic relationships with community service providers

 

Salary range $50,000 - $60,000. In addition to a competitive salary, JAS offers excellent benefits including medical, dental, PTO, VTO, 13 paid holidays, and 401k with 3% employer contribution.
