The Evanston Rebuilding Warehouse (ERW) was founded in 2011 to reduce building materials from entering the wastestream, promote reuse, and rebuild lives. We operate a retail warehouse in Evanston, IL open to the public and full of donated building material. We offer deconstruction services to homeowners that want to save their building materials from landfills. And we run a paid workforce training program that provides job readiness and on the job training in deconstruction. 


The ERW seeks a Workforce Training Program Manager to support our participants in the job readiness, supportive services, and job placement components of our program. The Program Manager will also coordinate participant recruitment. The Program Manager will have experience working in low-income communities and a commitment to breaking down barriers that limit access to careers in the building trades. The Program Manager must be able to build genuine and strong relationships with a broad base of constituents, from the program participants to employers with available jobs.


This is a full-time salaried position for 40 hours a week. Hours are flexible but generally completed Monday-Friday between 8:00am and 5:00pm. The Workforce Training Program Manager reports to the Director of Workforce Training and Deconstruction Services. 


Primary Responsibilities:

Supports and coordinates job readiness, supportive services, and case management for program participants

  • Meets regularly with participants to assess needs and develop individual employment plans for career development
  • Connects participants to community resources that will assist in reducing employment barriers
  • Schedules classes, professional certifications and field trips for trainees to ensure they complete the curricula within the program span
  • Seeks partnerships with other social service agencies to provide personal and professional life skills classes


Strengthens job placement partnerships between trainees and local employers

  • Builds relationships with local employers so trainees have a pool of possible employers after program graduation
  • Communicates information to trainees on job fairs, hiring events, and training opportunities for job seekers

Implements recruitment, application screening and interview scheduling, and hiring paperwork of workforce trainees

  • Builds partnerships with other regional workforce development agencies for referrals
  • Screens applications and schedules interviews for Workforce Training Director
  • Processes paperwork, drug testing and background checks of all hired trainees

Assists the Workforce Training Director in program development, administration, evaluation and growth

  • Helps strengthen program policies and procedures to ensure that trainees successfully complete the program and access careers in the building trades
  • Tracks evaluation outcomes and participants for program and grant reporting
  • Works to continually improve the curricula to be strategic and effective for trainees
  • Other duties as assigned


Job Skills and Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling or other related degree preferred
  • Minimum two years of relevant or related experience working in low-income communities, ideally in workforce development, education or related direct service
  • Excellent communications skills and ability to effectively communicate across all levels of the organization and community
  • Detail oriented, organized and responsive
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite
