Program Name: Sotomayor Cornerstone

Phipps Neighborhoods serves approximately 10,000 children, teens and adults in three key areas that we have identified as the best ways to systematically address the risk factors associated with poverty. Our School and Community Education programs include early childhood education, after-school programs, community school engagement, and summer camps for school age children. To help older youth begin careers, our Learning and Career Development programs offer high school equivalency preparation, English for speakers of other languages, college prep, and work readiness services. And, to help our community members address the barriers that limit their success, we offer Community Resources including resident support, financial counseling, free tax prep, assistance accessing benefits, and more. These services are funded by government grants and contributions from foundations, corporations and individuals. 

The Assistant Program Director is responsible for assisting in developing and managing a comprehensive Bronx-based youth program serving children, youth and teens in educational, recreational and arts-based programming, as well as adult members of the community.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise all aspects of the program in the absence of the Program Director
  • Work with the Program Director to establish program goals and outcome measures to determine the success of each program component
  • Plan and supervise all aspects of the after school and summer camp programs
  • Supervise special events
  • Some weekend work related to special events and meetings may be required. 
  • Design and manage site newsletter and site recruitment materials
  • Assist in developing and monitoring the site program budget
  • Maintain enrollment and attendance records as required by funders and Phipps CDC Youth Services
  • Report program statistics and information as mandated by funders and Phipps CDC Youth Services
  • Prepare reports as mandated by funders and the Program Director
  • Work closely with the school/site custodian to ensure that the site facilities are well maintained
  • Model appropriate child, youth and adult development practices
  • Communicate with alt staff, parents, children and community members in a polite and respectful manner so as to represent the program in a professional way
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director

Additional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred with relevant experience.
  • Minimum Associates Degree or 60 college credits required with relevant experience.
  • At least two years' supervisory experience. Experience working with the targeted age group is ideal.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills required; proven problem solving and interpersonal skills; proven ability to work w/ multiple deadlines and multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work across a variety of projects and with diverse populations.
  • Flexibility, adaptability and ability to work in a changing environment,
  • Team player excited about the opportunity to work in an environment dedicated to the development and growth of youth.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and computer literacy
  • Bilingual (Spanish speaking) preferred
  • Enthusiasm, creativity and initiative
  • A sense of humor and a sense of urgency
