The Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of the San Francisco Bay Area is on the leading edge of community relations and public affairs for the Jewish community. JCRC represents the organized Jewish community in complex community and government relations, legislative affairs, and inter-ethnic and inter-faith relationship building efforts. We seek a Bay Area Director for the Jewish Coalition for Literacy (JCL), a strategic initiative of JCRC.

JCL recruits, trains and supports nearly 300 volunteer reading tutors and matches them with 1,000 young students in 60 underserved public elementary schools in the East Bay, Marin, San Francisco and on the Peninsula to help ensure that all children can read by the end of the third grade. Limited literacy means limited opportunity for too many of California’s public school children who are unable to read at grade level. Studies show that proficiency in reading by the end of third grade is a crucial marker in a child’s educational development.
