Big Picture Learning is launching a multi-district initiative across New York State, focused on the Career Exploration Internship Program graduation pathway for New York schools (CDOS Option 1). The NYS CDOS Implementation Manager will drive this project, engaging eight districts across the state in partnerships to build, improve and sustain internship opportunities for all students before graduation.


This position will require a deep understanding of NYS graduation requirements and current policy issues around secondary education and CTE; comfort with working with district-level administration, including superintendents; and an ability to engage in collaborative educational (re)design work. The ideal candidate will have experience working in multiple communities (rural, urban, suburban) in New York State and also with providing/coordinating both in-school and out-of-school learning experiences.


Primary Responsibilities: specific scope includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Professional Development and Design Partnerships

·      Secure project partnerships with multiple districts across NYS, co-creating project goals and deliverables, and coordinating MOUs and contracts as necessary

·      Coordinate convenings in and across districts, facilitating internship and out-of-school learning design sessions for multiple stakeholders (educators, leaders, professional mentors, students)

·      Co-create implementation and transition timelines with schools and districts, develop project management systems to support and monitor change initiatives

·      Innovate authentic real-world learning experiences with students while navigating NYS graduation requirements, documentation, seat time, and certifications

·      Provide online instruction to educators through Big Picture’s LMS, Learning Big Picture

Coordinating Data and Systems

·      Develop record-keeping and reporting systems with schools and districts to collect and process information on project progress, challenges and successes

·      Collect, synthesize and provide analysis on student and mentor survey responses, graduation progress, and credentialing

·      Provide implementation and technical support for Big Picture’s Internship Management System, ImBlaze

Influencing: Policy and Advocacy

·      Document and highlight student successes and college and career preparation via internship programs, with special attention to issues of equity and outcomes for different student sub-groups

·      Monitor and participate in state-level dialogue on graduation options in NYS

·      Present/co-present on out-of-school learning work at state and national conferences 

Desired Credentials:

·      Four-year college degree required, Masters degree in education preferred

·      5+ years in a secondary education instructional or administrative position

Additionally, the ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

·      Knowledge of state, district, and school practices and policies around internships, project-based learning, CTE and paths to graduation in NYS

·      Ability to work effectively in multiple school and district environments across New York State (urban, suburban, rural)

·      Confidence and effectiveness in collaborating with grass-roots and grass-top partners

·      Communication, planning and logistics skills for convening stakeholders

·      Facilitation and professional development skills for collaborative work and learning

·      Familiarity with process improvement, user-centered design, and problem-solving; more than formal training, proven practical experience in those areas

·      Ability to facilitate the work of groups with empathy, flexibility, and good humor.

·      Ability to make decisions independently, combined with an ability to work collaboratively

·      Working knowledge of data collection, management and reporting

·      Technical savvy and appreciation for innovative technology solutions, with an ability to learn and work across multiple systems applications (Google Suite, Canvas, Zoom, Wrike, etc.)

·      Proven ability to partner with a diverse team and stakeholders. An understanding of systems of oppression and a commitment to equity

·      Strong work ethic with a proven ability to meet internal and external deadlines

·      An optimistic approach to work supported by an entrepreneurial and collaborative spirit; an outgoing nature and resilience and creativity to work within challenging systems

Interpersonal Qualifications

●      Ability to craft thoughtful and engaging written communications

●      Excellent interpersonal communication skills (speaking, writing, listening) in person + virtually

·      Commitment to continuous improvement, a relentless approach to growth and learning, and openness to constructive critical feedback.

·      Ability to make decisions independently combined with an ability to work collaboratively

·      Collegial and empathic approach to working with others, while bringing a creative, flexible and thoughtful approach to one's work

Location:

While Big Picture Learning is a virtual organization with employees residing across over 10 states, the ideal candidate MUST reside in the New York State.  This position would require approximately 40% travel.
