Organizational Overview: Episcopal Charities’ mission is transforming the lives of those in need. We provide critical funding, training, and volunteer support to outreach programs affiliated with parishes in the Episcopal Diocese of New York, equipping them for work that transforms lives and strengthens communities. We currently partner with more than 100 programs serving more than 1 million persons.


General Description: The Director of Development serves as a senior staff member and works closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors and colleagues to deliver and implement a comprehensive, ambitious and innovative plan to expand Episcopal Charities’ base of support. The individual in this role will direct, expand and implement all aspects of Episcopal Charities' development and communications activities. This position reports to the Executive Director and works closely with an engaged Board in overseeing the following:

·      Major Gift Program: Manage a portfolio of major gift donors/prospects including cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. Facilitate and support the fundraising efforts of the members of the Board of Directors;

·      Corporate & Foundation Relations: Ensure that strategies are in place to maintain relationships with existing institutional funders, to identify and cultivate new relationships and develop proposals;

·      Campaigns: Develop and evaluate all aspects of annual appeals and legacy giving;

·      Donor Management: Supervise the maintenance of all donor information and supervise the creation of fundraising reports for the Executive Director and Board;

·      Events: Oversee the planning and execution of the annual Tribute Dinner, Episcopal Charities Sunday and donor cultivation events;

·      Communications: Develop and deliver an external Communications strategy to increase awareness and understanding of Episcopal Charities mission. Develop marketing materials and oversee social media, web site, and an electronic newsletter;

·      Board of Directors: Responsible for staffing committees and developing strong board relationships. Reports regularly to the board on development-related matters;

·      Parish Relations: Develop and enhance relationships with selected parishes to communicate the work of Episcopal Charities programs and to encourage parish/parishioner support for Episcopal Charities.


Requirements[VL1] 

·      A familiarity with the Episcopal Church

·      A minimum of five to seven years of fundraising experience

·      Demonstrated ability to identify, cultivate, solicit and close major gifts

·      Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and work well under pressure

·      Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills

·      Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

·      Team player, with the ability to work independently; self-starter

·      Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and Raiser’s Edge

·      Familiarity with WordPress, Constant Contact, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter

·      Bachelor’s degree required. CFRE or advanced degree preferred

·      Valid driver’s license to visit donors throughout the Diocese
