MoveOn is a diverse and vibrant community of millions of people working together to create progressive change in America. We are an innovative campaigning organization that supports people throughout the country to take action through driving impactful campaigns that influence the behavior of people and institutions, shape the outcomes of elections, and expand the realities of what’s possible. We organize to challenge entrenched power, while pursuing economic, racial, and social justice and a vision of a country in which everyone can thrive.

MoveOn has a vital role to play in securing progress during the Biden-Harris administration and in organizing the grassroots to set up election wins in 2021, 2022, and beyond. We are building a powerful, multiracial, and economic populist movement, and fighting for progress on health care, climate, racial justice and more. In service to that mission, in 2021 and beyond, MoveOn will drive impactful, movement-connected, multichannel, nimble campaigns aimed at impact.

The Cultural and Marketing Team focuses on three areas: 1) developing and driving impactful and creative initiatives that build awareness and trust among targeted audiences, 2)operating as a cultural campaigning partner to the organization at large, and 3) advising and consulting on the broader organization’s messaging and narrative development. The Cultural Program Manager will report to the Director of Marketing and work with other teams in the organization to strategize and mobilize millions of people in defense of democracy, justice, and dignity for all on a range of topics.

  • Contribute to and support the development of cultural marketing initiatives that build awareness and trust among younger and diverse audiences, with an eye toward helping us learn from and refine our strategy and impact to go bigger in following years.
  • Serve as a project manager to help ensure that initiatives are executed and evaluated in a comprehensive and timely manner.
  • Track breaking cultural news and longer-term trends affecting organizational and team priorities.
  • Participate in cross-organizational bodies related to cultural initiatives and target audiences and represent the cultural marketing team on internal committees.
  • Engage partner organizations, especially those representing younger and diverse communities, to inform priorities and strategic direction for cultural initiatives.
  • Support the maintenance of partnerships with artists, messaging and narrative experts, and other creatives to help advance our work.

A successful candidate will …

  • Have a strong record of project management
  • Love and relish being creative and make space for creative thinking, visioning, and ideation for themselves and others.
  • Embrace building relationships and bridges to bring others along as they develop a new line of work and theory for how it plays out in the life of the organization.
  • Have an equity lens, a deep commitment to continuing to learn, and a dedication to applying an anti-oppression framework to both initiatives and internal organizing.
  • Understand how to use multiple types of mediums to achieve their goals (e.g., email, SMS, p2p, social, radio, etc.).
  • Make themselves reasonably available to consult and advise on parallel streams of work that could benefit from creative infusion.
  • Enjoy creative brainstorms, following the cultural trends, and working with colleagues and members with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced and flexible environment where priorities shift and there are opportunities to learn new tactics, tools, and processes.

Required skills and experience

  • At least 2-3 years experience participating in cultural strategy, marketing, or creative issue advocacy campaigns that mobilize people online and offline, promote progressive values with a clear equity lens, and make change in the world.
