The Whitney Museum, the preeminent Museum of twentieth-century and contemporary American art, is seeking a Marketing Coordinator, reporting to the Assistant Director of Marketing and Media Strategy. The Marketing Coordinator will contribute to existing marketing plans, while assisting with the development of new initiatives aligned with earned revenue efforts. The person in this role will have prior experience with a wide range of marketing functions, including advertising production, digital marketing, social media, email marketing, research, etc. The Marketing Coordinator must be an organized multitasker able to handle many diverse projects at once and meet tight deadlines.


Primary responsibilities include, but not limited to:


  • Support Assistant Director of Marketing and Media Strategy with project management and production of media plans for on-going and upcoming campaigns including identifying media opportunities, outreach, contracts, negotiating rates, etc.
  • Manage and optimize paid social media, search and display campaigns based on industry best practices
  • Project manage marketing efforts (advertising, collateral, special projects, digital). Liaise with Graphic Design to facilitate creation of and routing of materials via the online Project Center
  • Coordinate email marketing program. Manage and execute institutional email marketing campaigns and monthly newsletters: this includes building, editing and deploying (via MailChimp) and managing the institutional biweekly newsletters with the Communications team
  • Process and track all department invoices for Marketing and Membership provide reporting as needed
  • Compile comprehensive post-campaign performance reports along with weekly reporting (Email, Social, Search, Meltwater, and others as needed)
  • Coordinate rights and reproduction asks. Write copy and compile images and captions for Marketing materials adhering to the Whitney’s style and voice
  • Support marketing and membership-related events and photo/video shoots and manage the onsite logistics
  • Respond to inquiries from other departments regarding past marketing plans and attendance statistics
  • Assist with Tourism marketing initiatives
  • Support the Membership team proofing of weekly acknowledgments and Membership card inquiries
  • With oversite from Membership & Direct Marketing Manager, draft copy, prepare mailing data, and package the monthly letters for Membership related audiences
  • Provide general administrative support to the Marketing and Membership departments as needed
  • Provide event support to the Marketing and Membership departments as needed
  • Scheduling of marketing and membership department calendar / meetings, as needed
  • Work closely with the membership team to track usage and reorder collateral needed for the department’s ongoing operations (letterhead, brochures, etc.)
  • Coordinate Marketing calendar and meetings inclusive of scheduling, agendas, meeting minutes, etc.
  • Provide marketing support for a wide range of institutional priorities and in support of earned revenue areas


Qualifications and skills:


  • 2+ years marketing experience, including working at an agency or similar environment
  • Experience in digital marketing i.e. running campaigns on social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) is preferred
  • Professional experience with media vendors and overall knowledge of media landscape for traditional and digital tactics
  • Strong administrative, writing and editing skills
  • Ability to manage and meet deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, working with clients in fast paced environment
  • Knowledge and experience in platforms like Meltwater, Asana, Mailchimp, Raiser’s Edge and Microsoft and Apple suite are valuable skills for this role
  • Expertise and knowledge of best practices with email marketing (experience with Mailchimp is a plus) along with basic knowledge of HTML
  • Adobe Photoshop is a plus but not required
  • Passion for contemporary culture, especially visual arts
