We are looking for a Director of Legal Support and Strategy to join our Leadership Team and help
move our organization forward through strategic program planning, program management, and
legal casework. Our ideal candidate is someone who has the technical background in
Immigration Law and experience leading and collaborating with a team. We seek someone who
is passionate about serving indigent communities, strengthening community engagement, and
expanding our legal services and programs to their full potential.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Within the first 30-60 days and ongoing:
Learns Casa Cornelia’s processes, procedures, programs, legal services, law practices,
and responsibilities.
Meets and builds rapport with the Pro Bono Program Managing Attorney, Volunteer
Interpreter and Translator Program/ Information Systems Manager, Support Services
Coordinator, and the Communications Coordinator.
Becomes familiar with Casa Cornelia’s Electronic Case Management System and learns
how to document important information and data for cases, projects, audits, and reports.
Within the first 3-6 months and ongoing:
Oversees the Pro Bono Program, Internship Program, Volunteer and Translator Program,
and Client Support and Communication Team. Provides daily and on-going support,
direction, and collaborates with team members and volunteers on various projects.
Partners with Executive Director to develop strategic program plans with identified
timelines, budgets, and stakeholders; and begins implementing program improvements
where needed.
Is involved in at least 1-2 legal cases, providing direct representation and assistance for
clients within Litigation, Children, or Victim of Crime programs.
Meets with Leadership Team weekly and shares program audits and reports with impactful
data. Details what is working well and any inefficiencies and presents plans for
improvement. Provides input and ideas for other recommendations for program and
process improvements.
Within 12 months and ongoing:
Open and clear channels of communication have been established, allowing for
everyone’s voice and opinions to be heard, inspiring innovation and organizational
improvement.
Performance reviews are conducted annually for all team members, acknowledging
team members accomplishments, areas of development and thoughtful plans created.
Community engagement is encouraged and human rights awareness consistently being
promoted through all strategic communication platforms.
Has directly participated in 5-10 cases, assisting with the preparation of casework and
representation of clients.
Has overseen, participated in, and contributed to the success of at least 5-8 grant
proposals and 3-5 communications pieces.
EDUCATION, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE:
Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from an ABA accredited law school required
License to practice law in a state or jurisdiction of the United States and being in good
standing with the relevant licensing authority required; CA Bar license strongly preferred
5+ years practicing law, ideally in immigration, and 3+ years supervising and coaching
legal staff and mid-level managers required
A Master of Social Work degree from an accredited university with history of legal or social
services program development preferred
Working experience with a case management system as well as G-Suite and Microsoft
Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint required
Fluency in a foreign language regularly spoken by the firm’s clients preferred (Spanish,
French and/or Arabic)
Proven ability to interface and work with a Board of Directors and supporting development
operations for a not-for-profit required
Demonstrated scholastic aptitude or history of publication preferred
