Prospect Research Analyst (Temporary)


The WBUR Development department raises critical operating funds for the station throughout the year, complementing the efforts of the Membership and Underwriting departments, in addition to raising funds to meet the short- and long-term objectives of the Campaign for WBUR. The department builds lasting relationships with donors and identifies new major donor prospects through the research, cultivation, solicitation, and recognition of donors for various types of support.


The Prospect Research Analyst will develop and refine processes for identifying donor prospects using a variety of web scraping and data mining techniques, focusing on publicly available filings. This is an excellent opportunity for a self-starting and entrepreneurial individual to be part of a dynamic team during an exciting time in the station’s history.

Job Duties:

Strategy

• Develop proactive prospecting methodologies to support WBUR development goals

• Evaluate research results to develop and implement further strategies utilizing ethical fundraising intelligence-gathering techniques 


Research

• Identify new potential major gift donors using push technology, data mining, screening and other methods

• Conduct biographical and financial research on donors utilizing in-house files and a variety of sources, including donor databases and publicly available corporate, government, and individual financial records

• Monitor news and publicly available financial information on prospects from SEC filings, press releases, and major news outlets


Analysis

• Analyze and synthesize information to assess financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, giving propensity, and affinity to WBUR

• Survey various industries to ascertain WBUR’s strength and fundraising viability in particular sectors


Reporting & Other

• Produce in-depth, well-written reports on prospects based on research

• Willingness to take guidance from and check in regularly with Board of Director members


Qualifications:

• Ability to locate and interpret financial and biographical information on current or prospective donors from a variety of sources

• Demonstrated aptitude for analyzing and interpreting data (including property records, SEC filings, IRS 990s, DEF 14A forms for public companies etc.)

• Experience synthesizing complex information from multiple sources into a user-friendly and concise format

• Basic understanding of artificial intelligence and machine learning preferred

• Proficiency working with databases and navigating the web

• Discretion with confidential and personal information

• Attention to detail and superior organization skills

• Knowledge of the business sector and familiarity with corporate research and resources
