We are looking for a dynamic and compassionate Senior Program Analyst (School-Based/Education), Program Evaluation and Planning.  The Program Evaluation and Planning (PEP) team’s mission is to continuously strengthen the quality and impact of Good Shepherd’s services by promoting the use of data and research in decision-making at all levels of the organization. As a Senior Program Analyst, you would be driving this mission within the agency’s school-based and other education programs. Additionally, you would be providing project-based supervision to a Program Analyst in PEP who is tasked with providing support within the education portfolio.

 

Reports to:  EBP MANAGER, COMMUNITY-BASED PROGRAMS, PROGRAM EVALUATION AND PLANNING

Hours: 35 Hours/Week; Exempt


As a Senior Program Analyst, some big ideas you’ll think about with programs include:

• What is our data telling us about the program’s impact?

• What interventions seem most effective in driving positive outcomes? 

• How do we move from data insights to action to lead to improved practice? 

• How do we align our work to leverage knowledge across the agency’s education programs and promote best practices? 


Here are some things you can expect to do on a given day in this role:

Database Management

• Designing a screen in Efforts to Outcomes (ETO), our primary participant database, to track a new aspect of a program’s work. Or, adding fields to existing screens for staff to collect additional insights.  

• Writing and designing a report in ETO Results that program staff can use to monitor their data and inform their work with participants.  

• Running data quality checks and following up with program staff to ensure complete and accurate data entry. 


Promoting the Use of Data

• Designing tools and processes to help staff to use data in their day-to-day work. 

• Creating an agenda - in collaboration with a program’s leadership - for an engaging, interactive meeting to talk about participant outcomes.  

• Facilitating a meeting with program staff to examine outcomes and think about goals for improvement.  

• Using Excel or other programs to visualize data in a creative, engaging way, making the findings accessible to staff who aren’t comfortable with numbers. 


Other

• Collaborating with staff in our Government Contacts and Philanthropy department to gather data for a funder. You might also be called upon to produce key metrics for board members and others interested in understanding the impact of our programs. 

• Liaising/advocating with external stakeholders to find ways improve our work (e.g., advocating for improved data access to better understand the impact of our programs on student success). 

• Brainstorming with fellow staff in PEP about best practices in our work. 


What You Have:  

• A Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree is a plus. 

• Familiarity with education data and metrics; familiarity with NYC Department of Education reports and metrics is a plus.  

• Superior analytical skills. 

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• A strong customer service sensibility.

• Comfort using Excel to manipulate, analyze and visualize data. 

• An ability to manage multiple tasks at once.

• A precise attention to detail. 

• A minimum of 1 year of work experience in the education or social services field. 


You Might Also Have:

• Experience using a database. 

• Experience facilitating small-group trainings/hosting meetings.

• Experience with statistical programs, such as SPSS.
