The Concord Museum seeks an experienced professional to work with its Executive Director and Museum Treasurer to oversee the finance and operations of the institution’s growing mission and exciting future.

Overview of the Position

The Director of Finance and Operations is responsible for the financial management of the Concord Museum as well as related business and operational affairs of the organization, including financial operations, human resources, security, and facility maintenance. The position serves as a key member of the management team and reports directly to the Executive Director.

The Director of Finance and Operations supervises the following positions: Staff Accountant, Manager of Visitor and Membership Services; and Facilities Manager (part-time).  The position works closely with the Board Treasurer and is a liaison with the Finance Committee, Investment Committee, and Building / Facilities Committee of the Board of Governors, the Museum’s ruling body.

This is a full-time salaried position with benefits, including vacation and sick leave, health plan, disability insurance, and 403(b) plan. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Finance

.    Manage, proactively and strategically, the museum’s finances including regular reports and financial statements, internal financial controls, long-range financial risk models, accountability for the annual operating and capital budgets, fiscal policies and procedures, and efficiency and effectiveness of financial systems.

.    Provide the Board and Executive Director with clear, accurate, and timely information on the operating and financial performance of the Museum.

.    Develop, monitor, and report on strategic financial planning related to budget and finance, cash resources, financial reporting, and capital projects.

.    Design, manage, and communicate all aspects of the Museum’s treasury function, consistent with the Museum’s strategic, operating, and capital needs and goals.

.    Prepare annual financial statements, including audited financial statements, IRS Form 990, and other statutory and financials reports. Responsible for the management of the external audit firm and annual audit.

.    Provide financial data for grant applications and surveys, as requested.

.    Oversee risk management, including negotiation and selection of the Museum’s casualty, employment, and liability insurance coverage, and assures that the program is up to date and provides adequate coverage.

.    Partner with the Director of Development to project, monitor, report, and record gifts for annual, deferred, and capital purposes.

.    Represent the Museum to diverse external parties including IRS, state authorities, banks, insurance representatives, and others.

.    Manage external legal counsel(s).

.    Establish strong working relationships with Executive Director, Board of Governors, Treasurer and staff, with a strong commitment to collaboration, transparency, and mutual respect.

.    Attend and provide staff support for Finance Committee, Investment Committee, and Technology and Building Committee of the Board of Governors.

.    Supervise Staff Accountant, who oversees accounts payable and other bookkeeping functions as needed.

Human Resources

.    Serve as director of human resources, overseeing all aspects of employee hiring, performance management systems, separations, as well as employee compensation and benefits.

.    Maintain personnel records and personnel manual, negotiate with vendors regarding benefit offerings, enroll all new employees, and keep employees informed about benefit eligibility.

.    Oversee payroll system.

Facilities/Operations

.    Oversee all aspects of the Museum’s physical plant and 2 ½ acre campus, ensuring their current and future viability.

.    Supervise part-time Facilities Manager and assumes his responsibilities in his absence.

.    Oversees Facility Manager’s effort to develop and maintain schedules for regular maintenance of buildings and equipment; to ensure that required inspections are performed for fire, elevator, and occupancy, and that permits are current; and negotiate and oversee service contracts for cleaning, landscape, and HVAC systems maintenance.

.    Oversee capital projects.

.    Manage and negotiate all facility and equipment leases.

Visitor Services and Museum Store

.      Oversee and supervise the Manager of Visitor and Membership Services as well as the financial and accounting systems related to Museum Admissions.

.      Oversee the managed of financial systems, accounting and annual inventory related to the Museum Store

Other

.    Serve as a key member of the Emergency Response Team.

.    Perform other duties as assigned.

Professional Experience / Qualifications:

.    College degree required; MBA/CPA preferred. Six or more years related experience. Strong financial and operational experience. Solid treasury experience including debt structuring, cash investment and endowment reporting, and accounting.

.    Superior financial planning and analytical skills, and an in-depth knowledge of budgeting, modeling, debt management, compliance, construction finance, and strategic financial analysis.

.    Solid understanding of non-profit accounting, accounting systems, financial modeling tools and software, and financial reporting.

.    Experience in managing Human Resources and Facilities functions.

.    Excellent strategic leadership skills with a proven ability to partner effectively as a collaborative member of museum staff, and interact constructively with a variety of individuals.

.    A broad institutional perspective and appreciation for the Concord Museum’s mission.

.    Superior organizational and time-management skills.

.    Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written.

.    Track record of ethical decision-making and integrity in dealing with individuals and institutions.
