The Program Analyst will play a critical role in the execution of ISEIF’s smart grid consumer education fund and in fulfilling ISEIF’s overall organizational mission of enhancing energy literacy throughout the state. You will work closely with ISEIF’s Program Director and take a leadership role in tracking grantee compliance and performance benchmarks, in processing and managing organizational data, in leading the organization’s communications, in preparing for grant decision cycles, and in the full management of an innovative array of projects. This is an ideal position for someone who is deeply organized, technologically adept and is seeking an introduction to grantmaking and the philanthropic sector.


Performance management and reporting

  • Collect and analyze grantee performance metrics, along with overall portfolio performance metrics
  • Support Program Director in coordinating workshops and collaborative programming
  • Manage all administrative and day-to-day aspects of grant administration

Strategic management

  • Assist ISEIF and the Program Director in reviewing grant applications
  • Work directly with the Program Director on the evolution and development of new and existing ISEIF initiatives

Sector-based research and innovation

  • Catalog emerging trends and relevant statistics related to the impact / success of smart grid education
  • Identify areas of need for new research


The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual preferably with experience in the not-for-profit sector. The ideal candidate will have some experience managing and tracking data, knowledge of grantmaking, and a desire to apply their skill set to this unique opportunity. Technological proficiency and the ability to adapt to new software and platforms is required.

The following criteria are preferred but not required:

  • 2-3 years experience in non-profit, philanthropy, public sector, or social entrepreneurship work
  • Advanced degree preferred, BA/BS required
  • Familiarity with Illinois’ environmental non-profit sector
  • Geographical familiarity with Illinois
  • Ability to travel throughout state occasionally


  • Database management; proficiency in web-based platforms, experience with Tableau a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat and Wordpress
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written
  • Ability to track deliverables and details
  • Possesses attention to detail and high level of organizational and administration strength- able to develop systems of organization with minimal direction
  • Lead the organization’s communications efforts, including basic social media management
  • Demonstrated ability to interact as part of a team
  • Takes ownership of all tasks and requests and explores opportunities to add additional value

  • Creativity, flexibility and adaptability in a highly dynamic and unstructured environment - able to create a structure and process around new tasks or projects that have not been done before
