$50,000 - $63,000Salary range for this position is $50,000-$63,000 annually; salary depends on relevant experience and new staff rarely start at the top of the range – most start close to the midpoint of the range.

Western Resource Advocates (WRA) seeks a passionate and strategic professional to develop and advocate for policies, model legislation and other mechanisms that protect our Western Lands. The Policy Analyst will help shape responsible land management policy and ensure permanent protections. Reporting to the Western Lands Program Director, this position provides an exciting opportunity to shape state-level land policy and build a sustainable West.  


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • POLICY RESEARCH – Develop and advocate for policies, model legislation and other mechanisms that protect western lands.  Provide strategic advice regarding state land regulation and administrative law. Monitor and track relevant state and federal policy developments. 
  • LEGISLATIVE TRACKING – Track bills, ballot initiatives, and other similar efforts across our region on our issues. Follow statements and activities of key elected officials related to our issues. 
  • RELATIONSHIP BUILDING – Develop and maintain relationships across the West with conservation community partners, non-traditional allies, government partners, and other stakeholders. Cultivate key relationships with WRA board members, foundation partners, and donors. 
  • COLLABORATION – Work with WRA’s Communications Team to produce and disseminate materials that effectively communicate our mission, goals and the results of our work to external audiences. Participate in internal cross-programmatic efforts on behalf of the Western Lands Program. Stay informed on the work of WRA’s other programs to identify opportunities for cross-programmatic collaboration. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • EXPERIENCE – Proven and demonstrated experience or professional degree in natural resource law, public policy, wildlife management, environmental science, or related disciplines. 
  • LEGISLATIVE KNOWLEDGE – Basic understanding of the procedures related to the application of government policies of public administration. 
  • INTERPERSONAL SKILLS – Strong written and oral communication abilities. Comfort and skill in communicating with a variety of policymakers, constituencies and audiences. Ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with a variety of stakeholders. 
  • TRAVEL – Willingness to travel 10% of time.
