Position Overview

TFFJ seeks a passionate storyteller with an entrepreneurial spirit, flexibility, and a desire to join a rapidly growing organization to serve as our Communications and Development Associate. You will directly support TFFJ’s Marketing and Development Manager in implementing both internal and external communications and in meeting annual fundraising goals through grant solicitation, online and direct mail fundraising campaigns, and special events including an annual gala.

TFFJ has a great story to tell with lots of compelling visuals! Our goal is to create and implement an aggressive, strategic communications plan that will boost coverage and engagement by leveraging both traditional and social media channels. Our ideal candidate is an excellent writer and expert multitasker with experience using mass mailing/marketing platforms for nonprofit promotion and outreach.                                                             


Responsibilities and Essential Functions

The Communications and Development Associate will directly support our Marketing and Development Manager by:

Communications

  • Generating and curating content for TFFJ’s website and social media channels: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Youtube, and Linkedin
  • Submitting monthly analytic reports on social media and website engagement
  • Attending program activities and events to gather material for marketing collateral by: taking high-quality photos; shooting high-quality video on phone; and collecting success stories from partners, staff, and volunteers
  • Providing ongoing website maintenance, including updating Blog, Staff/Board, and In the News pages
  • Helping create marketing collateral for events and meetings, including flyers, brochures, one-pagers, and infographics
  • Collecting staff highlights and program updates for external newsletters

Development

  • Providing administrative and logistical support for fundraising events, including: promotional activities; managing RSVPs; coordinating invitation lists with the Board; working with vendors and sponsors; managing event details with TFFJ volunteers
  • Tracking all donations and manage follow-up, including thank-you letters, donor listings, and other recognition activities
  • Regularly updating all donor records
  • Maintaining and updating constituent mailing lists
  • Assisting with drafting appeal letters for an annual crowdfunding campaign
  • Assisting with funder prospect research and outreach


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of experience in either nonprofit or for-profit communications and marketing, or development; can include Americorps, fellowships, or other service year programs
  • Experience in writing, copy editing, photography, videography, social media, and/or website management
  • Experience managing digital/social media platforms for a nonprofit organization
  • Experience working with outside volunteers (photographers and videographers)
  • Ability to organize and prioritize when working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency
  • Proficiency with G-suite

  • Basic graphic design skills using web-based programs like Canva, InDesign, and Photoshop
  • Social media savvy
  • Commitment to community empowerment, advocacy, and food justice/equity, social justice
  • High energy and an optimistic outlook
  • Excited about spreadsheets!
