The CFLS Speakers Bureau is a place where survivors of traumas such as victimization, homelessness, and incarceration learn to speak publicly about their experiences thus educating the community about their needs while spreading awareness about pertinent community issues. The CFLS Speakers Bureau allows speakers to define ways audiences can be of help financially and as advocates through volunteerism, as well as to provide an opportunity to earn income while learning to speak publicly. This marks a notable expansion of CFLS employment services, diversifying options offered for women to gain skills and earn income by educating the community about how women move from hopelessness to hopefulness.

Under the Direction of the Director of Reentry & Supportive Services, the coordinator will be responsible for coordinating speaking engagements, planning events such as our lunch and learn speaker series, handling the logistics of our 7-week training, building relationships with potential venues and partners, and providing assistance to members. A big component of the job is coaching members to prepare for their engagement and guiding them in their professional development. As the program expands and grows so with this position.

The ideal candidate will have strong public speaking skills, experience in coaching others, demonstrated experience in handling event logistics, compassion for women who have experienced incarceration and trauma, and outstanding organization skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide screening to potential applicants to determine program eligibility
  • Coordinate applications for review by the Speakers Bureau team and Advisory committee.
  • Point of contact and assistance for applicants, participants of the Speakers Bureau and potential venues
  • Work with the community to recruit and identify potential candidates
  • Ensure the participants receives support in their personal and professional growth, coaching before speaking engagements, and additional supports
  • Maintain good working relationships with community partners and funders.
  • Identify venues and create partnerships with other non-profit and for-profit organizations, and conference venues as well as find other opportunities where participants may speak. Conduct outreach to establish opportunities for members. Negotiate terms of speaking engagements.
  • Submit invoices and ensure timely payment of Speakers Bureau members after training and engagements.
  • Communicate with venues and Speakers Bureau members to coordinate engagements, ensure timely arrival and proper preparation for engagements
  • Correspond with speaker bureau coaches, mentors, and other partners
  • Maintain schedule of speaking events and track program outcomes. Assist in the development, improvement, and systematization of the program.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the Speakers Bureau Cohort training (consists of seven Saturdays, twice per year, from 9am – 4pm). Handle logistics such as food and gift ordering, printing, and mailing
  • Structure and provide performance feedback to participants. Advocate on clients’ behalf for fair pay for engagements, ownership of her story, as well as connecting to resources.
  • Attend and participate in all required trainings and meetings. 
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • 3-5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience coaching others in professional development and public speaking preferred.
  • Experience with formerly incarcerated women preferred.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches preferred.

Full Time position. Will require work on some Saturdays.
