Close the Gap California (CTGCA) seeks an experienced manager based in Southern California to lead our statewide team of volunteer leaders and work with our pool of prospective candidates. 


Who We Are

CTGCA is a campaign launched in 2013 to close the gender gap in the California Legislature by 2028. By recruiting accomplished, progressive women in targeted districts and preparing them to launch competitive campaigns, we are changing the face of the Legislature one cycle at a time. Nine CTGCA recruits are serving in the Legislature today, eight of them women of color. Our small group of staff and consultants is bolstered by a statewide network of volunteer leaders, known as Recruiters and Scouts, who leverage their contacts to identify and guide potential women candidates.


Description of Role

Part-time contract position with potential for growth into a full-time, benefited staff position through 2027.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Anchor CTGCA strategy on the ground, ensuring campaign benchmarks are hit
  • Guide Recruiters and Scouts through CTGCA exploration process in target districts for 2022 election cycle
  • Collaborate actively with leadership and the team on the evolution of our recruiting strategy for 2024-2028 election cycles
  • Identify, vet, and train new Recruiters & Scouts
  • Connect Recruiters, Scouts, and Recruits to relevant experts, allies, mentors, consultants
  • Liaise with Senior Political Consultant & Executive Director on identifying potential candidates, guiding them, and relevant political considerations
  • Co-lead Recruiting team in monthly meetings, along with NorCal Lead Recruiter & Executive Director
  • Lead and participate in weekly volunteer team meeting
  • Represent CTGCA leading up to and at public gatherings of allies & supporters, including for fundraising purposes

 

What is Required: 

  • Minimum three years of professional experience with a focus on advocacy, civic engagement or electoral politics
  • Deep familiarity with and mature judgement about electoral politics
  • Commitment to racial justice, women’s leadership, progressive values
  • Experience working with groups focused on women, communities of color and/or progressive priorities
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to track numerous projects and processes across a diverse array of geographies and personalities
  • Great with people, enthusiasm for mentorship of high-level volunteers
  • Strong track record of effectively managing a diverse array of teammates and promise to do so in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
  • Basic knowledge of allied organizations and political leaders in Southern California
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with remote guidance


Bonus Points for:

  • State-level policy expertise
  • Experience working for a member of the CA State Legislature on either official or campaign side
  • Connections to leaders in one or more organizations focused on social justice, environmental, labor, communities of color, women’s, health or education advocacy
  • Experience with NGP VAN/Every Action
  • Fundraising connections and experience
  • Enthusiasm for event planning
  • Record of successfully managing volunteers

 

Position Terms:

  • Part-time
  • Contract, renewable through 2027
  • Reports directly to Executive Director
  • Remote position with moderate travel throughout California required once regular business resumes following the COVID-19 pandemic 
  • Base location: anywhere in Southern California with preference for Los Angeles County or Inland Empire
