Institutional Giving Manager 

Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) is seeking an experienced development professional to work in partnership with the Director of Development and the entire ACC team to assist in implementing and strengthening a fundraising plan to support organizational growth. This position supports ACC’s institutional giving with an emphasis on managing foundation and government grants, growing the portfolio of funders and engaging corporations for special event sponsorship. The ideal candidate will care deeply about the mission of ACC, and have proven success as an important member of a hard-working fundraising team. 

Essential Responsibilities

Strategy & Relationship Building

  • Manage ACC’s institutional giving and engagement strategy, including the cultivation of private, community and corporate foundations 
  • Research and identify prospective foundation, corporate and government donors to support programmatic activities, general operating support and capital planning
  • Act as primary relationship manager for all institutional funders and partners to keep them abreast of the work and initiatives of ACC 
  • Create correspondence strategies and communication calendar for all funders 
  • Ensure appropriate recognition and fulfillment of all obligations to corporate, foundation, and government funders, including processing tax acknowledgments 

Fundraising & Grant Management

  • Identify, write, and submit grant proposals and budgets, in collaboration with ACC program staff 
  • Work closely with senior program staff to create and realize a thoughtful approach to major institutional funding 
  • Manage and maintain grant calendar including tracking deadlines, correspondence, and the receipt of gifts and pledges
  • Prepare grant proposals, letters of inquiry, annual and semi-annual reports, and strategic communications for foundations, corporations, and government agencies
  • Solicit and secure corporate sponsorships for ACC’s special events, including our annual Gala
  • Conduct on-going prospect research to grow the prospect pool for projects
  • Ensure all necessary records, files, reports, and databases pertinent to grant activities remain up to date and accurate
  • Work closely with ACC's program and Finance staff to manage grant-supported programs, including progress and achievements, budget components, and compliance with all grant requirements

Program Coordination

  • Utilize Raiser’s Edge and NetSuite platforms to record and monitor all pledges and payments
  • Assist with general Development Department activities, including appeals and mailings
  • Assist with donor cultivation and provide support for various fundraising events

Qualifications

We are looking for a highly self-motivated individual with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent organizational ability, and attention to detail and accuracy. Superior computer skills (MS Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with knowledge of Blackbaud software, including Raiser's Edge. Flexibility and initiative to work both independently and as part of a team. An interest in the health, welfare, and protection of animals is desirable.

Education and Work Experience

An undergraduate degree is required, with a minimum of three to five years professional philanthropic experience in a nonprofit development/fundraising department.

Work Environment

ACC has five locations across the five boroughs and a corporate headquarters in downtown Manhattan. This position is located in our headquarters and includes occasional visits to the other animal sheltering locations. The headquarters has an office cat and on occasion other animals. When visiting shelter locations, employee may be exposed to odors or airborne particles including animal fur and toxic chemicals, and high levels of noise.

This is a full-time position with occasional weekend, evening, and holiday work.

Reports To: Director of Development. 

Overtime: This position is not eligible for overtime.
