Founded as CFED in 1979, Prosperity Now recently underwent a strategic planning process to refresh its vision, brand, position, and programming model. 

Purpose: The Director of Marketing and Campaigns leads comprehensive, organization-wide strategies and initiatives to establish and build Prosperity Now’s profile and deepen engagement with key audiences. The Director of Marketing and Campaigns works across all internal teams to ensure prioritization and consistency of messaging in support of Prosperity Now’s goals. The Director of Marketing and Campaigns works externally to deepen relationships with partners, donors, influencers, and other important stakeholders.

The Director of Marketing and Campaigns is responsible for setting the organization’s marketing strategies; growing the number of supporters and engaging them in advocacy, communication and fundraising efforts; developing, in collaboration with development colleagues, and executing fundraising strategies, and directing the organization’s positioning awareness efforts across multiple channels and initiatives virtually and on the ground.

The Director develops and implements consistent measurement and evaluation strategies to monitor the impact of these efforts, finds creative ways to improve the use of email communications and directs overall email strategy, expand the growth of social media, stays current about emerging digital strategies and incorporates new technologies and strategies as appropriate, ensures that online and offline outreach strategies, events and campaigns operate in sync, and trains staff in proven and emerging tools and tactics. The Director will ensure that all strategies, campaigns and initiatives support, and are consistent with, Prosperity Now’s overall communications strategies, messaging and branding.

Accountability: The Director of Marketing and Campaigns reports to the Vice President of Communications.



  • Participate in the implementation of organizational initiatives and strategies
  • Direct and oversee the business of the team’s portfolio through effective leadership and management of strong internal and external relationships, quality control, marketing, and responsible fiscal management
  • Participate in the development of team strategic plans, goals, and objectives, ensuring alignment with those of the organization
  • Ensure strong and open communications channels between all team members and across the organization, including the appropriate dissemination of program information to staff as needed
  • Active member of the Directors Council, informing the organization’s strategic direction and decision making
  • Proactively bring ideas to the Council and to leadership on how to amplify progress toward organizational goals

Team Management and Development

  • Provide support and guidance to team members, including communicating team goals and emphasizing the organization’s guiding principles
  • Develop and implement a system to evaluate and address the skill, experience and professional development needs of team members
  • Ensure and promote the development of team succession planning through coaching, training, and leadership development
  • Work with team members to develop objective performance measurements across all projects to ensure consistent, high-quality goal setting and fair evaluation metrics
  • Instill a sense of accountability among team members by modeling close oversight of individual and organizational performance standards
  • Actively seek to resolve any team concerns while adhering to the organizational policies and standards of behavior
  • Oversee the recruitment, hiring, training and orientation of all department team members
  • Create and manage timelines to ensure all deadlines are met

Portfolio Management

  • Direct Prosperity Now’s multi-channel engagement strategy and set the organization’s overall digital strategies
  • Lead campaign strategy and plans and ensure consistent narrative and framing across stakeholder engagement spectrum
  • Work with Chief Engagement Officer and Vice President of Communications to develop and execute narrative and culture change strategies and plans, including influencer engagement
  • Develop and lead a comprehensive program to promote and enhance the organization’s advocacy, visibility and impact
  • Lead multi-year multi-channel strategy for building Prosperity Now’s presence
  • Work with program teams to co-create content and related marketing and communications plans
  • Provide strategic guidance over the full suite of the organization’s issue-based campaigns and culture-change strategies
  • Lead and inspire a dynamic team and oversee an integrated, multi-channel campaigns plan, connecting themes and action plans across multiple core issues and initiatives
  • Manage a portfolio of Prosperity Now priority campaigns, including but not limited to cross-cutting and multi-issue advocacy initiatives, culture change campaigns, and marketing and campaigns to build and solidify Prosperity Now’s brand awareness
  • Support the organization’s movement building and network engagement goals by participating in and/or organizing related coalitions
  • Work closely with the Director of Creative Services as well as senior leadership to shape multi-channel engagement strategies
  • Coordinate with the Director of Media Relations to create press opportunities
  • Develop expertise in the issues on which Prosperity Now works and how to educate and grow our base of supporters
  • Partner closely with Development team to create and manage direct marketing fundraising campaigns.
  • Proactively build brand awareness by exploring opportunities for partnerships, branded items, and branded events
  • Lead with data across all initiatives, with a laser focus on increasing web traffic and supporter base across all channels through paid and organic initiatives
  • Lead development, writing, design, and dissemination of communication campaigns in support of Prosperity Now’s overall mission, brand and position and collective and individual programs
  • Work in collaboration with the Director of Creative Services to ensure all work execution and strategies are in consistent adherence to the Prosperity Now brand and style guides
  • Write, review, edit, and finalize content, ensuring messaging is consistent across all campaigns, for publications, e-blasts, web, and other communication deliverables
  • Work with Development and program teams to build and support donor and partner marketing and messaging priorities
  • Oversee writing of action alerts, social media content, blog posts, toolkits, and other materials related to campaign portfolio
  • Organize and manage virtual and on-the-ground events for Prosperity Now and in collaboration with partner organizations
  • Plan and hold meetings, conference calls, public speaking opportunities, and other Prosperity Now-hosted events
  • Participate in the management and stewardship of the department budget
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Educational background in related area of study; or at least ten years of relevant work experience
  • At least six years of experience leading and setting strategy for a multi-person team, preferably in a field related to racial wealth equity, community development or poverty alleviation
  • Broad understanding of digital communications, marketing, organizing and fundraising to advance goals
  • Demonstrated ability to create imaginative, original and innovative campaign strategies with a vision for centering those facing multiple forms of discrimination
  • Cultural competency and experience with diverse stakeholders and audiences, including understanding how to meet supporters where they are and move them to take actions on some of the most critical issues of our time
  • Experience building relationships across organizations and coalitions
  • Experience with events and conference planning; and overseeing an events portfolio
  • Hands-on experience and expertise in managing influencers and related engagement strategy
  • Record of using technology and data to drive campaigns as well as hands-on demonstrated experience using communications tools such as social media platforms and analytics, eCRMS, webinars, action alerts, listservs, and databases
  • Prior experience working in an environment with ever-changing timelines, requests, deliverables, tight deadlines and budgets
