Bi/Multilingual (Full Time 32-40 hrs/week)

The Program for Torture Victims (PTV) assists the courageous survivors of state-sponsored torture and persecution who have stood up for freedom, equality and human dignity. Since 1980, PTV has helped new U.S. refugees, seeking asylum from over 70 countries, heal their physical and psychological wounds and start a second life here in California.


PTV has a unique opportunity for a passionate, bilingual/multilingual licensed mental health professional and forensic psychological evaluator to support immigrant survivors of trauma. The therapist will evaluate and provide treatment for asylum seekers primarily in our new office in Santa Ana and occasionally at immigration detention centers in Orange County. Major responsibilities include: interviewing and assessing asylum seekers, authoring psychological reports as evidence in Asylum Hearings or in Immigration Court; serving as expert witness in immigration court; working with and maintaining close relationships with partner legal services organizations or pro bono attorneys; partnering with a treatment team of a case manager, massage therapist, physician, and attorney in providing client care and legal representation; providing trauma-informed therapeutic treatment and case management as needed; facilitating group and peer support sessions; and documenting client information, services and notes in PTV’s client database.


The successful candidate will have the following qualifications or attributes:

  • A CA-licensed mental health professional (LCSW, MFT, PsyD, LPCC).
  • Fluent in an additional language(s) such as Spanish, Arabic, or Vietnamese is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills.
  • Minimum of 5 years of providing trauma-informed therapeutic care (assessments, therapy, crisis intervention and case management) including experience with immigrant and/or LGBT populations.
  • Comfortable substantiating and defending findings as an expert witness in LA Immigration Court.
  • Strong in computer skills, including experience working with electronic client care databases and MS Office software.
  • Holder of CA Driver’s License and ability to travel to LA Immigration Court and to local immigrant detention centers.
  • Experience conducting forensic psychological assessments and writing evaluations is a plus.
  • Experience working with interpreters is a plus.


Salary is DOE.
