Coordinator (Attendance Success Mentor Coordinator for Community School)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Foster strong relationships and effective communication and collaboration with students, parents, school staff, school administration, partners, and Zone 126 colleagues
• Collect daily student attendance records and develop a strategy to track students who are chronically absent or endangered of becoming chronically absent
• Develop and maintain a cohort of students (known as Success Mentees) who were chronically absent in the previous school year living in the Zone (zip codes 11101, 11102, and/or 11106) with an additional focus on students living in public housing or students living in temporary housing to support them increasing their attendance in the current school year
• Meet in weekly sessions that happen before, during (at lunch time), or after school to support establish successful academic and attendance habits for these students
• Identify resources for students who might be on the cusp of becoming chronically absent to provide them with early interventions
• Ex: tutoring, mentorship, school-based mental health clinic, etc.
• Outreach to families to support them with linking to various support services that might be in school or outside in the community
• Ex: NYU ParentCorps, school-based mental health clinic, tax preparation services, community food pantry, work force development
• Collect school and evaluation data to support the Zone 126 longitudinal study (overall school rosters on a monthly basis, classroom rosters for programs, student data consent forms, program attendance, individual engagement with students/families)
• Analyze data that is supportive to decreasing chronic absenteeism and increasing family & community engagement
• Support the school with additional duties outside of the ones that you are personally responsible for that do not conflict with your day-to-day daily functions
• Enforce all program policies and procedures to ensure the safety of students and staff, and compliance with government agencies
• Attend at least one professional development opportunity a month (i.e. either that you seek out or one that Zone 126 recommends)
• Communicate in a professional manner (on time, and in standard English)
• Respond to emails within a 24-hour time period
• Perform other duties as deemed necessary

 Qualification, Skills and Knowledge Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with at least 1 year experience working in youth development
• Must have knowledge of the New York City attendance school system
• Ability to effectively engage students and parents
• Patient, motivated, well organized, with exceptional communication skills
• Knowledge of and sensitivity to issues prevalent in underserved communities of color
• Demonstrated record of meeting and exceeding goals and positively impacting children, families, and the community
• Capacity to undertake creative, innovative, and visionary strategic planning and execution
• Superior interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
• Dedicated to providing positive outcomes for children and families
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook and Google
• Ability to develop Google Forms, create Google Drive Folders and organize documents in a cogent manner
