Position Summary

4-H seeks an experienced Development Director, Healthy Living to contribute to its Resource Development Departments (RD)’ fundraising goals, including coordinating solicitation of grants ranging from $100K to $5M from major national corporations to supporting unrestricted operational efforts as well as major programmatic initiatives. The Development Director will also work in partnership with the Senior Vice President(VP)/Chief Development Officer, VP for Development, and Program teams to successfully implement the RD team plans. The Director will strategically contribute in all areas of the RD team including planning, prospecting and cultivation, new business development, donor deliverable, board solicitation, and reporting. 


Development Portfolio Duties

  • Responsible for securing and stewarding significant  accounts (generating $5-7M+ per year) to achieve annual Council fundraising goals to support programmatic expansion and Council organizational needs.
  • Drive new business development and pipeline growth through a variety of mechanisms including prospecting, cultivation at conferences and other events and leveraging relationships of Trustees and members of senior leadership.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of corporate giving interests, staff, and trends particularly in the health and wellness industry.
  • Develop and facilitate relationships for donor cultivation, new development opportunities, board solicitation, and reporting on successful completion of initiatives. 

Cross-Organizational Collaboration Duties

  • Stay informed about organizational needs and strategies
  • Work with research and corporate writer for high-quality prospecting and proposals development.
  • Partner with program, marketing, digital, account management and finance teams to develop integrated, 360-degree proposals that align with Council and donor initiatives. 

Strategic Communications Duties

  • Develop RD updates for the Board of Trustees in partnership with assigned program team, VP of Development and Chief Development Officer.
  • Monitor activity via reports and frequent customer contact.
  • Partner with Account Manager to develop and deliver formal performance reports to each assigned account at least once annually.
  • Lead and supervise other projects as required by VP of Development.


  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, public health, business administration, sales management, or related discipline, or equivalent in work experience (master’s degree preferred.)
  • Must have at least 10 to 15 years experience in successful corporate or foundation fundraising in the health and wellness sector.
  • Must have at least 8-10+ years of progressively responsible work experience in planning, managing, and initiating relationships between private and non-profit sectors in the health and wellness sector. 
  • Must have 8-10 years of prior experience developing and maintaining knowledge of corporate giving interests, staff, and trends particularly in the health and wellness industry.   
  • Must have 10+ years experience working with high-level donor representatives and volunteer Board members. 
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Proficient in Raiser’s Edge or equivalent fundraising/CRM software. 
  • Must have the ability to perform in a team-oriented environment. Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize.

  • Basic math skills needed to calculate formulas, commissions, discounts,  and so forth. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds.  

Travel Requirements: Travel may be necessary, up to 20% of the time (5 days/month; local, regional & national). Would require travel by air, car, rail.
