Summary of Role

A key member of Lee Montessori’s Leadership, the Communications & Outreach Manager supports the effective implementation of Lee Montessori’s strategic plan and is central to ensuring that we uphold our core values, purpose, vision, and mission. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications & Outreach Manager’s primary responsibilities are to ensure (1) effective internal communication and coordination among senior leaders and the board of directors and (2) that Lee Montessori’s objectives -- including development goals -- are supported through effective internal and external communications.


Major Duties and Responsibilities

Support the implementation of strategic planning, management, and key initiatives

  1. Support implementation of all governance, financial, administrative, and operational activities for the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
  2. Assess inquiries directed to the Executive Director, determine the proper course of action and delegate to the appropriate individual to manage. 
  3. Support the Executive Director and other Senior Leaders in the implementation of our Crisis Communications Plan
  4. Ensure all issues are addressed properly, efficiently, judiciously, and promptly, keeping track of progress until resolved, at the direction of the Executive Director.
  5. Act as a point of contact between staff, stakeholders, and the senior management and provide the communication framework for all relevant parties (e.g. Executive Director, Board, staff, community, etc.).
  6. Provide strategic guidance to the Executive Director and senior management; assist in facilitating effective decision-making and help to prioritize their time and appointments.
  7. Ensure streamlined activities within the organization based on the priorities of the Executive Director.
  8. Attend meetings and calls on behalf of the Executive Director in absentia and ensure all the action items from the meeting are executed.
  9. Assist and support school and network staff in the development and participation of school functions, including but not limited to open houses, orientation meetings, family education events, and school-wide activities.

Implement Communications Strategy. Working with Senior Leaders and communications consultants:

  1. Implement a comprehensive messaging document that organizes all organization priorities, attributes, and initiatives into defining core messages.
  2. Engage in comprehensive outreach strategies to families and other key external stakeholders.
  3. Implement a communications plan that a) ensures internal communications reflect core messages, and b) increases awareness of organizational goals, priorities, and activities among staff, students, and families.
  4. Develop copy for marketing materials.
  5. Ensure the website is reflective of the latest content, allowing for campuses to personalize their pages, 
  6. Collaborate with campus leaders to implement an extensive communications strategic plans to support student enrollment and recruitment efforts.
  7. Oversee the content, strategy, and planning of Lee Montessori’s social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).
  8. Develop and distribute a quarterly newsletter to Lee Montessori staff and families.
  9. Develop and distribute an annual report for Lee Montessori audiences.

Implement Lee Montessori’s fundraising strategies.

Working with the Executive Director and other key stakeholders, develop an annual fundraising plan to increase private support and competitive government grant awards, including:

  1. Grant writing for both government and foundation grant opportunities.
  2. Conducting thorough research on prospective individual, foundation, and corporate donors aligned with Lee Montessori’s mission. 
  3. Supporting the Executive Director in cultivating relationships with donors and foundations, including Lee Montessori’s Board of Directors, school families, and local businesses.
  4. Lead the planning for the annual Lee Montessori Founder’s Gala.
  5. Design and implement online fundraising campaigns.
  6. Support the creation and updating of development materials.
  7. Manage donor stewardship and track donor activities.
  8. Perform administrative tasks including gift processing and managing in-kind donations.

Requirements

The Communications & Outreach Manager plays a pivotal and crucial role in the organization’s ultimate success. The education and skill requirements for this position include:

  • Have a firm commitment to upholding the school’s mission and Anti-Bias/Anti-Racist pedagogy. 
  • Have a minimum of five (5) years experience, preferably in the field of education.
  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in communications, business management, education management, public policy or related field, Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Display strong knowledge of the operation of computer and database systems.
  • Demonstrate superior creativity, leadership, and communicative skills.
  • Experience in a Montessori setting is preferred but not required.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $80,000.
