Vice President, LID – Services, Learning & Design

Flexible Location

TNTP seeks a full-time Vice President to lead the Services, Learning & Design arm of the Learning, Impact & Design division.  This position is based from a home office anywhere in the U.S.  Frequent travel of up to 50% will be required, contingent upon organizational/state/federal travel regulations.

Who We Are

A national nonprofit founded by teachers, TNTP believes our nation’s public schools can offer all children an excellent education. Today we’re a diverse team from a wide range of fields, united by a fierce commitment to helping school systems end educational inequality. We work at every level of the public education system to attract and train talented teachers and school leaders, ensure rigorous and engaging classrooms, and create environments that prioritize great teaching and accelerate student learning.

Staff in TNTP's Learning, Impact, & Design (LID) division work to support TNTP to meaningfully use research and data to advance equitable outcomes for all students, regardless of their race, ethnicity, or other aspects of their identity.  We aspire to have staff, client partners, community members, families, and students to see and experience TNTP as an anti-racist organization that has a significant and consistent impact on advancing equitable student experiences as we support clients with community and stakeholder engagement, curriculum, instruction, assessments, systemic reforms and/or ensuring alignment at every level to rigorous standards. We keep the full system in mind to customize interventions that will make a sustainable long-term impact for students at scale.

What You’ll Do

As a member of the Leadership Team, the Vice President plays a critical role in setting the vision and strategy for LID’s support of the Consulting division.  The Vice President will report to the Senior Vice President, LID and expand the supports that LID provides the Consulting division to deliver on our short- and long-term impact while setting the vision, goals and culture for teams reporting to the VP.  This VP will manage our Academics Practices Team, our Talent Practices Team, our Integrated Practices Team, and our Educator Pipeline Team – teams that work to ensure that the Consulting division has the resources, staff development, and learning orientation to deliver on transformative outcomes in our current consulting practice.

We expect this Vice President to:

  • Lead TNTP’s strategy to codify our perspectives, develop our internal staff, and learn from our current projects in academics, talent, and integrated practices. You understand and consider external conditions that affect the organization’s work, actively advocate for change, and successfully lead codification, staff development, and learning efforts throughout the organization, working closely with the Consulting Team to ensure that LID is meeting the organizational needs so that TNTP can improve its impact, effectiveness, and efficiency.
  • Possess a breadth and depth of knowledge about the current state of critical issues in education. You make it a point to stay current on best practices and innovative approaches in education, and you’re not afraid to leverage different schools of thought or develop entirely new approaches to meet the needs of your partners, even if it means challenging the status quo.  You understand the current landscape and are constantly looking ahead and forward-thinking about what’s to come, and how our strategies should evolve accordingly.  You also have the knowledge and skills to balance the current educational landscape against our emerging north star of economic and social mobility.
  • Develop and lead external relationships. You’re energized at the opportunity to build relationships and work alongside external partners. You believe that our best work can only be done through engaging diverse perspectives and are intentional about seeking out and expanding opportunities with national partners.
  • Ensure our continued growth. You’ll support TNTP’s growth by closely stewarding our core resources, including people, time, money, portfolio of services, client relationships and our national reputation, and by bringing an innovative perspective on emerging trends in the education landscape and the future of TNTP’s work.
  • Motivate and influence others to act. We’re counting on your ability to develop strong relationships within TNTP and leverage those to motivate our staff to utilize and improve upon the resources provided by the LID division.
  • Have a vision for improving outcomes for students at scale. You’re a strategy setter who can generate innovative and nuanced solutions to our partners’ most complex challenges, provide strategic vision, anticipate challenges, and assess the effectiveness of our work. You consider the political, economic and social context of our partners, and adjust the direction of our work as needed.
  • Lead with an asset-based and equity-centered approach.  You have a strong understanding and prior experience with equity-based, asset-oriented and culturally responsive practices, and use them as foundational lenses of your leadership.
  • Model cross-cultural agility.  Authentic self-reflection, self- awareness, and high emotional intelligence are central to who you are, and you utilize these skills to shape a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion, that influences how you think about your work.  You have an adept cultural understanding of yourself and use your understanding of yourself and others to build trusting relationships with direct reports, colleagues and clients.
  • Champion your people. One of your greatest responsibilities and privileges will be to hire, grow and develop staff working on teams within the LID division and ensure they have an inclusive and supportive work environment that reflects TNTP’s culture and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Balance divisional and organizational leadership. You’ll lead your team toward your goals and priorities while operating as a leader of the LID division and TNTP. You’ll thoughtfully navigation tensions between what is best for your team, for the division and for the organization. You recognize your role and your Management Team’s role in maintaining a culture of One TNTP and will lead with that frame in mind.

What You Bring

First and foremost, we are looking for amazing people who have diverse backgrounds and experiences, are inspired by our mission, and are highly motivated to change children's lives through education.  We value diversity of ethnicity, race, socioeconomic status, sexual identity, gender, religion, language, ability, and experience and exemplify this through the makeup of our team at all levels. You will be right at home here if you cultivate strong relationships and push yourself, your work, and the people around you to the next level. We encourage those with the following identities to apply: Black, Latinx, Asian American, and Pacific Islander, Indigenous people, LGBTQIA+ and non-binary people, veterans, people living with disabilities, and others with lived experience being part of marginalized communities.

  • A broad understanding and point of view on emerging trends and what the future of the education landscape holds, and an innovative perspective on the role a consulting organization like TNTP can play within it.
  • Strength in change management through multiple layers as you shape the path for the LID division to follow in service of the organization’s current and future strategic plan
  • A perspective to contribute at the leadership team level around economic and social mobility as we reorient to our future strategic plan
  • Demonstrated experience establishing relationships with and engaging a diverse group of stakeholders. Professional fluency in English and Spanish (preferred)
  • Enthusiasm about representing TNTP externally and leading partnerships and business development efforts with new and existing clients and funders.
  • Experience leading engaged, diverse, inclusive and effective project teams that deliver work of the highest quality and meet goals.
  • Deep expertise in motivating and influencing others to act - including peers, direct reports, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong experience in managing budgets and maintaining the fiscal health and sustainability of assigned projects, including comfort managing profit and loss targets and revenue and expense goals.
