Manager of Individual & Institutional Giving

Ghetto Film School (GFS) is an award-winning nonprofit founded in 2000 to educate, develop and celebrate the next generation of great American storytellers. With locations in New York City, Los Angeles, and London, GFS equips students for top universities and careers in the creative industries through two tracks: an introductory education program for high school students and early-career support for alumni and young professionals. GFS annually serves over 6,000 individuals, 14-34 years of age. GFS has an annual budget of approximately $5 million and a staff of 17.

GFS is seeking a Manager of Individual and Institutional Giving to oversee the functioning of the Development Department’s operations and systems, and manage individual, corporate and foundation efforts. This position will be based in The Bronx, NY. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer (CDO), the Manager of Individual and Institutional Giving is responsible for the following primary roles:

Administrative

• Manage and oversee GFS’s Salesforce database – including all gift entry, reports, record updating, reconciling gifts with the finance office, pulling mailing lists, and working to continually improve the system;
• Manage the Development calendar and gift acknowledgement process;
• Track prospecting, solicitation, cultivation and stewardship activity.

Individual Giving

• Work with the CDO, the Marketing and Events Manager, staff members, and key stakeholders to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward gifts;
• Work with the Marketing and Events Manager to incorporate event attendees and donors into the implementation of The Donor Cycle.
• Qualify, cultivate, and solicit prospective donors and build through research GFS’ donor pipeline; 
• Prepare written proposals and other materials needed to secure gifts.

Institutional Giving

• Seek, research, and cultivate potential foundation and corporate funders;
• Work with the Grants Writing Consultant on completing applications; 
• Write reports and work with the Management Consultant to prepare financial materials for all applications;
• Ensure timely submission of proposals, including advance review and approval by the Executive Directors and CDO, as appropriate
;
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree, with an interest in film preferred;
• Strongest candidates will have 2+ years of professional experience working in a development department;
• Impeccable writing skills;
• Excellent computer skills: substantial experience with Salesforce or a similar donor database; Microsoft Suite, Excel and Word; basic HTML skills and experience with user-friendly web development platforms (e.g. Squarespace, Weebly, Wix, Wordpress).
