    Location: New York City, 4 days in the office and 1 day remote

    Position Overview

    Reporting to the Vice President of Development, the Director of Development will be responsible for the day-to-day management and execution of the NYIC’s fundraising efforts, leading a high-performing Development Team to implement strategies that sustain and grow revenue from foundations, corporations, individuals, and events. The Director will ensure internal alignment, operational excellence, and implementation of fundraising strategies across all revenue streams. The Director will take a lead role in managing and expanding the institutional giving portfolio, including foundation and government support, and will work closely with senior leadership to identify new opportunities for revenue diversification. This role will also manage relationships with major institutional funders and individual donors, ensuring consistent engagement and stewardship. The Director should demonstrate the ability to foster a positive and high-performance work culture through effective supervision, goal setting, coaching, and professional development of team members.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Work closely with the VP of Development, CEO and President, the NYIC Board of Directors, especially the Development Committee, and NYIC’s senior leadership team to ensure successful fundraising and strategic growth of NYIC funding portfolio
    • Lead creation and execution of comprehensive institutional giving strategy to increase the NYIC’s fundraising profile aligned with our goals and priorities
    • Oversee and strengthen all aspects of institutional fundraising, including grant development, funder cultivation, prospect identification and research, funder engagement, government grants and contracts, and manage a diverse and ambitious portfolio of grant opportunities.
    • Direct the development and submission of compelling grant proposals and reports, ensuring alignment with funder priorities, organizational goals, and compliance requirements.
    • Support VP of Development on individual giving and corporate partnership strategy as needed, contributing to a holistic and integrated development approach.
    • Supervise growing Development team at least two people, fostering a positive and high-performance work culture through clear goal setting, supportive coaching, strengths-based performance management, and ongoing professional development.
    • Work closely across all departments to accomplish development goals, and create an environment of clear communication between relevant parties to ensure all NYIC staff members are aware of funding being sought and secured
    • Oversee the management and strategic use of donor databases and tracking systems, using data analytics to guide fundraising strategy and institutional outreach.
    • Partner with the Finance team to ensure timely and accurate receipt, processing, and reconciliation of funds across NYIC accounts.
    • Represent the NYIC in the place of the CEO and President and VP of Development to major stakeholders and potential funders when necessary
    • Perform similar functions for affiliated organizations, including our 501(c)4 political arm NYIC Action
    • Occasionally carries or moves materials weighing 50 pounds or less.

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum of five years of experience and strong track record of success in fundraising, relationship cultivation, grants management, and organizational development;
    • Strong project management and writing skills required;
    • Experience with supervision, professional development, and coaching
    • Knowledge of and background in immigration issues at national, state, and local levels is an advantage
    • Experience working with board members to enhance and leverage fundraising activities
    • Experience using Salesforce and Asana preferred
    • Creative, energetic, and well organized
    • Excellent written, interpersonal, oral communications skills
    • Authorized to work in the US for any employer

    Annual Salary: $92,700
