Description

Sonoma Overnight Support (SOS), is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit that has been in existence for 10 years. The mission of SOS is to feed the hungry and shelter the homeless. This is made possible through food programs, day-services, and case management. The shelter also houses residents who sleep and temporarily live at the shelter. During winter time we have an additional winter shelter.


SOS is in need of an administrative assistant that will help alleviate some of the office related work that allows the nonprofit to run smoothly.


The ideal candidate will closely assist the executive director with small tasks and large projects such as:


  • Check phone messages
  • Make and file copies/print
  • Make signs for shelter events
  • Attend monthly staff meetings
  • Post news about SOS on Facebook
  • Purchase office supplies with shelter credit 


  • Writing and printing up to 100+ thank you letters to donors in letter template
  • Print envelopes with mailing addresses
  • Put letters in the mail
  • Maintaining/updating a 1000+ donor list on Google Drive and Constant Contact
  • Keep and organized track of donations
  • Help prepare for meetings with donors and guests as needed
  • Help prepare for a monthly board meeting
  • Assist in the writing and completion of grants
  • Meet grant deadlines
  • Once a year help with the organization of a fundraising event hosting up to 200 people

  • Work well under stress
  • Have good time management
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Work well independently and as a team
  • Be able to work and focus in a very busy environment
  • Be able to deal with various tasks and receive direction
  • Be comfortable and have a good sense around vulnerable populations of people
  • Be comfortable working with a computer and sitting for a couple hours
  • Know how to use Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive
  • Take initiative and be forward-thinking
  • Have good writing/editing skills
  • Patience is key
