The Center for Court Innovation is a non-profit organization that works to create a more effective and humane justice system by performing original research and helping launch reforms by guiding justice innovators, nationally and internationally. The Center creates operating projects that have been documented to reduce the use of jail and prison, assist victims of crime, and strengthen communities.

Brooklyn Justice Initiatives (BJI) seeks to re-engineer the experience of criminal court in Brooklyn, New York by providing judges and attorneys meaningful alternatives to bail, fines, and jail sentences. Operating out of Kings County Criminal Court, Brooklyn Justice Initiatives is a team of social service providers, court-based resource coordinators, and others who seek to improve the quality of justice. By providing meaningful pre-trial supervised release and post-conviction sentencing options, Brooklyn Justice Initiatives seeks to use an arrest as a window of opportunity to change the direction of a participant’s life and avoid the harmful effects of incarceration. 

Brooklyn Justice Initiatives is seeking an Office Manager. Reporting to the Deputy Director, the Office Manager will provide administrative and logistical support to all BJI programs.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage inventory of office supplies and equipment, and order or purchase additional supplies and equipment for multiple office locations, as needed;
  • Arrange for storage pickups, improving organizational systems, as needed;
  • Liaise with facilities for repairs and renovations, and additional office maintenance, as needed;
  • Maintain relationships with vendors including processing vendor invoice payments, placing orders with vendors, reconciling deliveries and contacting vendors regarding equipment maintenance;
  • Manage relationships with landlords and building management companies;
  • Manage fiscal responsibilities, including but not limited to submitting and monitoring outgoing invoices through online system, spearheading credit card reconciliations, and liaising with CCI Fiscal department;
  • Develop and maintain department contact lists and related pertinent staff information including internal emergency contacts;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with partner agencies and stakeholders;
  • Prepare press packets for site visits and onboarding, and update as needed for special events;
  • Greet and check in participants and staff by collecting basic client information;
  • Notify clinical staff of participant arrival, and facilitate screenings and intakes at a high-volume;
  • Answer phones and contact participants, partner agencies, and attorneys via phone, email, and text, as needed;
  • Order and distribute Metro cards, participant incentives, phones, maintain updated logs, and complete monthly inventory;
  • Track foot traffic numbers to BJI senior staff each month;
  • Orient new BJI staff to the office space and assist with onboarding, as needed;
  • Assist the management team in planning events and staff group activities, as needed;
  • Coordinate setup for special events, trainings and large meetings at designated operating sites;
  • Retrieve shipments and run administrative errands to different departments within courthouse;
  • Maintain and update Office Administration Manual;
  • Performing other related tasks, as necessary.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree OR equivalent lived or professional experience. Excellent communication and writing skills required.  A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in office management or administrative setting is preferred. This position requires an organized and creative individual who is willing to learn office management systems and can work well in a fast-paced environment. Excellent written and oral communication skills required. Candidate must have a commitment to social justice issues and desire to learn more about the justice field. Must have proficient computer skills. Bilingual (English-Spanish) strongly preferred. Candidate must be open to learning, be team oriented, and able/willing to speak in front of groups.

Position Type: Full-time, weekend and evening hours required as needed for BJI operations.

Position Location: Brooklyn, NY

Compensation: Salary starts at $45,000 and is commensurate with experience.
