Founded in 2004 and named for the first African-American woman to earn her Ph.D. in Mathematics, the award-winning E.L. Haynes Public Charter School serves more than 1,135 students in grades Pre-K3 through 12th grade. E.L. Haynes operates two campuses in the Petworth neighborhood of Northwest Washington, DC, and offers a rigorous educational program designed to prepare students to succeed in the college of their choice.

- Participate in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students who qualify for speech-language therapy as a related service. Create present levels and goals (with objectives as needed) for students that are based on an assessment of current needs. Regularly assess students’ IEP progress and communicate progress to families each quarter in EasyIEP by the deadlines provided by the school;
- Use knowledge of current research-based best practices to design and implement therapeutic programs for individual students and groups of students based on IEP goals either in the inclusive general education setting, in pull-out sessions, or in special education classrooms. Ensure that students receive the services required per their IEPs;
- Collaborate with general education teachers, special-education teachers, and other related service providers to identify instructional strategies and accommodations/modifications that promote student success in all content areas;
- Assist students, families, and staff in understanding students’ speech and language disorders so that all can advocate for and support students’ achievement of their academic, behavioral, language, and social goals. Refer families to outside organizations as appropriate;
- Maintain the Speech and Language evaluation materials, therapeutic equipment, and supplies;
- Complete speech-language screenings and speech-language assessments; and
- Engage in continuing education and professional growth activities related to speech-language pathology in the school setting.
- A license to provide speech-language services in Washington, DC;
- Two or more years of experience working in culturally, demographically, and socially diverse educational settings;
- Inner ability, stamina, and self-care strategies necessary to work with a high needs population;
- Strong organizational and communication skills;
- Strong motivational interviewing skills;
- Proven ability to work as a member of a team;
- Commitment to meeting the needs of every child in a diverse population;
- Commitment to your own learning and professional development; and
- Strong collaborative capabilities.
You might also have:
- Experience working with middle school students; and
- Oral and/or written proficiency in Spanish.
