ASHA for Women is seeking a full-time Social Worker to join our team. Proficiency in South Asian Cultures and knowledge of at least one or more South Asian Languages a must. Must have a Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling or related field. 3+ years relevant experience working in domestic/sexual violence/IPV field and /or geriatrics. Must demonstrate an acceptance and respect for cultural diversity in all its forms, including ethnicity, sexual orientation, abilities, and religious backgrounds and an ability to work collaboratively in an ethnically, linguistically, and culturally diverse environment. Must have a dependable automobile with valid driver’s license and current insurance coverage.



Social Worker Job Description 

Since 1989, ASHA for Women has been providing community based, culturally competent  services within the Washington Metropolitan Area to South Asian families. We were  established to help women and their children impacted by domestic violence. We have recently  extended our services to South Asian men and women seniors. Our mission is to provide the  support that empowers South Asian women to become self-reliant and live in an abuse-free  future, and seniors and caregivers to live independent lives with respect and dignity. 

Position:  

ASHA for Women is seeking a full-time Social Worker to join our team. Reporting to the  Executive Director, the candidate will provide trauma-informed advocacy, intervention and  support to South Asian families. The Social Worker will maintain communicative and collaborative relationships with the Board, staff, and volunteers thereby working towards  fulfilling the organizations purpose and mission.  

This position requires flexible work schedule when necessary.  

Salary: $65,000 - $75,000 

Position Responsibilities: 

• Provide culturally responsive crisis-intervention, case management, advocacy and  supportive counseling services. 

• Conduct client and family interviews, risk and needs assessment and engage clients in  developing personal safety plans. 

• Utilize client-centered needs assessment, assist clients develop realistic goals and  empower them to achieve emotional well-being, housing and financial stability, safety  and self-sufficiency. 

• Serve as clients’ primary in-house source for case management support and provide  advocacy to help them navigate community resources that can be intimidating and  unreachable to under-served populations. 

• Work collaboratively with government and non-governmental service providers. • Develop, organize and facilitate culturally appropriate educational, informational  workshops and outreach activities. 

• Document discoveries in client records according to established protocol.

• Maintain client records, including all mandated agency forms in accordance with agency  policy and state confidentiality laws. Ensure that all records strictly comply with  policies, regulations and procedures 

• Develop ongoing referral relationships within the health, legal, social service systems and  partner organizations 

• Actively participate in ongoing training as needed in order to meet all certification  standards and credentialing policies 

• Participate in training as recommended by supervisor. • Attend supervision, departmental  and agency staff meetings as assigned 

• Other duties assigned by supervisor 

Required Qualifications: 

• Must have a Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling or related field. • 3+ years relevant experience working in domestic/sexual violence/IPV field and /or  geriatrics. 

• Must have familiarity with the needs of the target populations. Prior experience working with  gender violence, seniors and/or crisis intervention is essential. 

• Flexible and a self-starter; able to multi-task and should have the ability to work under  pressure and juggle multiple time-sensitive tasks. 

• Excellent people skills, with experience collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and  dynamic team.  

• Must demonstrate an acceptance and respect for cultural diversity in all its forms, including  ethnicity, sexual orientation, abilities, and religious backgrounds and an ability to work  collaboratively in an ethnically, linguistically, and culturally diverse environment. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with Excel. 

• Proficiency in South Asian Cultures and knowledge of at least one or more South Asian  Languages. 

• Experience with community-based work and ability to engage collaboratively in an  ethnically, linguistically, and culturally diverse environment. 

• Must have a dependable automobile with valid driver’s license and current insurance  coverage

• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to effectively  communicate with broad range of individuals. 

• Knowledge and respect of all confidentiality issues 

• Ability to prioritize all aspects of the job
