POSITION TITLE:      Development Director

REPORTS TO:           President

POSITION STATUS: Full-time Employee


POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the President, the Institute’s Development Director is responsible for the overall development goals including broadening the base of support, planning community engagement activities, building an active alumni program, supporting the Treatment Center Director’s development efforts and growing a major gift program focused on relationship-based fundraising. The Development Director is an integral part of the Institute’s administrative team and works in partnership with the President, Institute leadership and the Board of Trustees to manage and oversee all fundraising activities.  


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

The ideal candidate will be a motivated, creative, self-starter with strong development experience, relationship building and communication skills.  In addition, he or she should possess:

·       Minimum 5-7 years fundraising experience;

·       Experience working with a Board(s) of Directors/volunteers/lay leadership

·       Experience with event management for both large and smaller fundraising and cultivation events

·       Ability to create innovative programming opportunities designed to engage and attract donors;

·       Proficiency with fundraising software (recording gifts, running reports, managing donors, etc.)  

·       Excellent stewardship skills, including follow through and an attention to detail

·       Ability to collaborate with a team as well as demonstrate initiative and a proven ability to work independently

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and

.     An understanding of the mental health landscape, specifically the uniqueness of psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic thought.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.    Annual Campaign Management

·       Lead the development and execution of Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute annual fundraising efforts, including direct mail, major gifts, donor recognition and stewardship program, and an annual fundraising event

·       Implement and maintain an annual fundraising calendar

·       Implement and maintain a process for grant tracking and reporting

·       Collaborate with President, professional staff, Treatment Center Director and Board to develop and implement annual and long-range fundraising goals, budget and strategies

·       Work with Board on strategizing their role as ambassadors for the Institute through

crafting of elevator speech, fact sheets about Institute programs and other information to be shared with the public


2.    Relationship Building with Major Donors and Prospects

·       Build on the Board’s current efforts to identify, cultivate, solicit, acknowledge,

and steward major donors

·       Conduct prospect research with a focus on generating new potential major donors.

·       Organize, schedule and participate in cultivation visits with major gift prospects

·       Manage solicitation assignments for lay and professional staff. Help coordinate and

schedule meetings and motivate all parties to complete assignments


3.  Development Committee

·       Staff volunteer development committee and subcommittees, including alumni, major

gift, and annual benefit

·       Work in partnership with development committee chair to set goals and action plan

and ensure coordination with the larger committee

4.  Database Management

·       Maintain and update donor database, including acknowledging and recording gifts, and

generating donor lists and reports

·       Train and oversee staff who are assigned to assist with data entry or other tasks

related to the database


5.    Other duties as assigned
