Description

Orion, a nonprofit quarterly magazine about nature and culture, seeks a Managing Editor to join our creative and hard-working team.

 

The Managing Editor will

·     acquire and edit one or more feature articles per issue

·     help review and evaluate submissions to the magazine

·     help coordinate special editorial projects

·     coordinate Orion’s production and design process

·     oversee the editorial budget

·     acquire and edit two or more departments

·     and provide support to Orion’s senior-level staff.

 

The Managing Editor will also supervise all staff members providing editorial and/or production support, and will therefore be skilled in managerial competencies, including self-observation, self-management, interpersonal awareness, attention to communication, personal credibility, empowerment of others, and providing motivational support.

 

The person who is hired for this job will have track records in both acquisition of editorial material consistent with the content that Orion publishes, in staff supervision and staff management, and familiarity with magazine production.

Benefits

The salary for this position is between $42,000-$47,000/year for a 36-hour work week (M-Th 9am-5pm, F 9am-1pm), plus a very generous health/dental/life and PTO benefits package. This position will require occasional travel, occasional weekend and evening events, and representation of Orion at conferences and gatherings.
