POSITION SUMMARY

This position is located in the UN Global Compact’s Government Relations Team, which is responsible for mobilizing Governments in support of the UN Global Compact, encompassing political affairs, programmatic collaboration, and financial engagement. The Manager, Government Relations will provide substantive input across all areas of Government engagement, with a particular focus on the management of Government grants. The incumbent reports to the Senior Manager of Government Relations.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Within delegated authority, the Manager, Government Relations, will be responsible for the following duties: 


  • Participates in the overall implementation of the UN Global Compact’s Government Relations strategy;
  • Coordinates Government resource mobilization issues; monitors and analyzes funding results with individual Governments; reviews overall fundraising efforts systematically and regularly seeks to identify new fundraising opportunities; integrates data from resource mobilization, pledges, donor payments and budgets;
  • Prepares reports and follows-up with Government contact points for UN Global Compact grants, including liaising with different colleagues in order to ensure that Governments receive comprehensive and relevant information on the impact of the Global Compact;
  • Provides substantive support to meetings with Governments, including the preparation of briefing notes and other background documents for bilateral meetings;
  • Provides substantive support to meetings of the UN Global Compact Government Group and Group of Friends, including proposing agenda topics, identifying participants and speakers, preparing meeting documents and presentations, as well as ensuring timely follow-up of outcomes and decisions;
  • Researches, analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources related to Member States’ political and policy trends and latest developments with regard to the UN Global Compact, corporate sustainability and sustainable development;
  • Supports the engagement of Governments with the UN Global Compact’s programmatic work; and

·        Performs other duties as required by the Senior Manager of Government Relations or Chief of Staff.


Results Expected

  • Increased number and diversity of Governments engaging with the UN Global Compact through resource mobilization, political support and programmatic cooperation;
  • Positive feedback from donor Governments in terms of the grant management process, including the timely delivery of pledge documents and other required reports; and
  • Increased awareness of the impact and activities of the UN Global Compact in how they relate to Member States’ policy priorities and development strategies.

Level of Language Proficiency

  • A first-level degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent), preferably in international relations, sustainability, economics or related field is required. An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) is desirable. Knowledge of political dynamics related to sustainability is an advantage.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in project or programme management, administration or related area with relevance to the UN Global Compact’s programmes and mandates is required. Experience in the areas of Government relations, corporate sustainability, UN-business relations, management of Government grants, or fundraising, is desirable.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of other UN official languages is an advantage.
