POSITION SUMMARY:

Beacon Hill Village (BHV) is a non-profit membership organization that creates opportunities for older Boston residents to choose how and where they live as they age by providing programs, access to services, and community engagement to help older adults lead active, independent and healthy lives.

BHV is seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals to safely transport and escort our older adult members to and from appointments, social events, trips to the airport, and other activities primarily in the Greater Boston area. Responsibilities include assisting with walking, opening doors, carrying packages, and assisting with luggage as needed. Additionally, drivers may be asked to provide grocery shopping and delivery services and other errands for our members.

This rewarding opportunity to help Boston’s older adults thrive independently in their homes is perfect for mature and/or retired individuals with excellent driving records and their own automobiles.

Part-time work is flexible and on call with particular need for Tuesday and Friday mornings.

Occasional opportunities for longer distance rides within MA, with additional compensation for mileage.

Requirements:

  • At least 10 years driving experience and an excellent driving record with a current MA license in good standing.
  • Must own your own 4-door vehicle, which must be recent model year, clean, well-maintained, reliable and insured based on BHV required minimums. Non-smoking cars only.
  • Must enjoy working with older adults and able to assist with walking aids, opening doors and carrying packages.
  • Must pass CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) and driving record checks.
  • Must pass a driving evaluation with BHV staff person.
  • At least 21 years old. Mature drivers are encouraged to apply.
  • Motivated and hard-working, kind and patient
  • Flexibility a must.
  • Ability to walk unaided and lift 25 lbs.
  • Knowledge of Greater Boston area geography.
  • Must have a reliable cell phone with GPS.

Established in 2001 by neighborhood residents, Beacon Hill Village is a member-driven, non-profit organization serving residents age 50 and over who live primarily in the Back Bay, Beacon Hill, the West End and surrounding neighborhoods. We provide activities, programs, services and opportunities for community engagement as well as access to needed assistance so that we may lead active, independent and healthy lives and successfully navigate the transitions of growing older. All our programs and services are in direct response to the expressed needs and desires of our members. As the first Village in the nation 14 ago, Beacon Hill Village pioneered a social innovation developed by older adults for older adults, which promotes aging in community. Today, there are more than 190 open villages across the country and around the world that many more in development, all supported by the Village to Village Network, which Beacon Hill Village helped to establish and of which BHV is a member today.
