Central Queens Y is a 501(c)(3) non-profit community center serving over 10,000 persons of diverse backgrounds in Queens County. The CQY provides a continuum of social, recreational, and educational services for children, families, and adults. For over two generations, the Central Queens Y, located in Forest Hills Queens, has been a special place for thousands of families, older adults, children and individuals who participate in its parenting, preschool, after school, cultural arts, camping, health and fitness, social services, and senior programming.

We are currently looking for counselors to staff our various after-school programs. Salary is dependent upon schooling and grade level. Strong preference for candidates that can commit to five (5) days a week from approximately 2:00 or 3:00–6:30 p.m.


RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB Supervise children between Kindergarten and 8th grade. Administrative duties include completing and monitoring daily attendance sheets. Implementing daily activities and programming. Responsible for maintaining classroom space in an organized and clean fashion. Chaperone youth from one activity to another. Working collectively and communicating with all peer staff. Attend counselor training and staff meetings.


QUALIFICATIONS Applicants should be high school or college age. This is NOT a position for a therapist. 3–4 years of administrative experience preferred that includes receptionist work in an office setting; experience in a non-profit environment a plus; college degree preferred. Excellent customer service skills. Must be friendly, engaging and patient with callers, clients, and guests. Experience working within an office environment in an administrative capacity. Ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure to meet production deadlines. Attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize daily workload. Demonstrate cultural competency through familiarity with working with people from a very diverse number of backgrounds. Must have excellent interpersonal skills as well as verbal and written communication skills. Computer literate, including experience with all Microsoft Office software packages; Google Drive (Gmail, Calendar, Contacts, Docs, Sheets, etc.); knowledge of ResSched or other room reservation software; and efficient use of the Internet.
