Madison Community Foundation (MCF) is currently seeking a Donor Relations Manager to join the Donor Engagement team. This position plays a key role in advancing the mission of MCF by proactively engaging and stewarding constituents and serving the needs of individual and nonprofit fundholders, legacy society members and prospective supporters.

The Donor Relations Manager works directly with individuals to help develop and support plans for giving today and through estates; assists nonprofit leaders to establish and grow endowments; and manages events and projects to effectively engage and steward audiences vital to MCF’s mission.

Personal attributes that are fundamental to the role include: positive and inclusive attitude, strong moral and ethical standards, humility, collaborative nature, and an ability and willingness to engage with people of varying ethnicities, backgrounds, and socioeconomic levels.

An Undergraduate degree and five years of experience in philanthropic services, development and fundraising, or similar, preferred.

This individual will report to the Vice President of Donor Engagement and work closely with all departments. Competitive salary and benefits.

Summary of Major Responsibilities:

The Donor Relations Manager advances the mission of Madison Community Foundation (MCF) by working with individuals to facilitate giving today and in the future (through estates); assisting nonprofit leaders to establish and grow endowments; and, planning and managing events and projects to engage and steward MCF constituencies. The Donor Relations Manager serves individual, organizational and corporate fundholders, members of our Legacy Society (planned gifts) and donors. This role involves building a working knowledge of current giving strategies involving cash, securities, donor-advised funds, endowments, wills and trusts.Specific Responsibilities:

  • Implement and manage a stewardship plan for MCF audiences to ensure consistent, proactive communications and engagement
  • Work with active and prospective individual fundholders, Legacy Society members and donors to support gift/fund/legacy planning and activity
  • Work with active and prospective nonprofit fundholders to support fund establishment and growth
  • Manage planning and logistics for annual and special events to ensure smooth operations and meaningful engagement opportunities for constituents 
  • Conduct meetings, place calls, and send written correspondence to constituents
  • Perform research and discovery visits to engage constituents and prospective donors
  • Collaborate with the communications team to develop invitations, collateral, and creative ways to recognize supporters and demonstrate the value of giving to and through MCF
  • Maintain and update acknowledgment and tax receipt letter templates
  • Utilize MCF’s donor management database to track donor engagement activity
  • Represent MCF at community events
  • Additional duties as assigned


Success in this Role Requires:

  • Excellent listening, written, verbal and interpersonal communication abilities
  • Exceptional human relations skills; the ability to serve a wide range of audiences
  • Strong organizational and project management skills; attention to detail
  • Knowledge of tools and strategies for giving
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Proficient in database management (Raiser’s Edge experience a plus)
  • Demonstrated ability to represent a professional image
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
  • Ability to work effectively, independently and in a team environment

 Education and Experience:

Undergraduate degree and five years of experience in philanthropic services, development and fundraising preferred.
