At the Service Learning Project (SLP), we believe children and teens have powerful solutions to complex social problems. We partner with schools and community organizations in Brooklyn, NY to create opportunities for elementary, middle, and high school students to make their voices heard and become leaders in their communities.
SLP is currently hiring part-time instructors for the 2018 fall and spring terms. Instructors either co-teach weekly sessions with classroom teachers or facilitate after-school clubs. This is a 5-10 hour per week position that includes teaching hours, preparation, and weekly supervision meetings. Instructors guide students as they work through the SLP model: a five-phase, student-driven process through which youth have a real impact on a school or community issue of their choice.
Applicants should have the following qualifications:
- College degree preferred
- Experience and enthusiasm about working with kids and/or teens
- In-school experience not required but is a plus
- Very strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Passion for service
- Interest in inquiry-based teaching
