POSITION TITLE:      ReWA Outreach Coordinator


PROGRAM:                Behavioral Health


REPORTS TO:           Behavioral Health Director / Senior Director Family Empowerment


STATUS:                   Nonexempt Regular Full-time (37.5) hours/week


SUMMARY:               This position is responsible for helping to destigmatize mental and behavioral health services in refugee communities and helping families understand the support and services available for them. The primary goals are to 1) Increase community awareness of behavioral health and 2) Increase community utilization of behavioral health treatment. Secondary goals are community outreach of ReWA City of Seattle programs.



DIRECT SERVICES RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with outreach, education and information regarding ReWA programs and services.
  • Help refugee communities identify mental health and behavioral health services that are open to them and help communities engage in destigmatizing mental and behavioral health issues and support and services.
  • Provide education and information for a better understanding among community members about what constitutes “mental illness.” This includes the basic knowledge and terminology about different forms of mental illness and how they can be treated.
  • Help with destigmatizing commonly held beliefs that severe mental problems are caused by a person’s spiritual crisis, such as demonic possession or being “crazy.”
  • Provide education to help communities understand that what they share with a therapist at a mental health clinic will be kept confidential.
  • Work in tangent with other ReWA departments with outreach and recruitment for other City of Seattle programs; youth, housing, and Allen Family Center.
  • Complete weekly and monthly reports.
  • Conduct education and outreach workshops educating refugee communities about the benefit of mental and behavioral health support and services. 
  • Attend all meetings and trainings necessary for position.
  • Other duties, as assigned by the program director.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

·        Some secondary education in behavioral/mental health, human services or related field.

·        Strong English proficiency, in writing and orally.

·        Fluency in Somali, Amharic, Tigrinya, Arabic.

·        Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office software, especially WORD, Excel and PowerPoint

·        Effective prioritizing, organizational and multi-tasking skills

·        Experience working with immigrants and refugees; ability to establish effective working relationships with multi-cultural staff, clients, community representatives and the general public.

·        Highly positive with enthusiastic style; capable of motivating clients

·        Must be self-starter and dependable with strong problem-solving skills and good judgment.

·        Ability and willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

·        Must have reliable transportation.
